Yes, you read that correctly: this is part of the BEST countdown. I know a lot of you will hate me for this, but I actually really liked the Bronco's throwbacks in 2009. I should say, I liked one of their throwback uniforms. Now, their home yellow and brown abominations were another story, but these white/brown road unis are actually really good. Here's why I think so: First, excellent color patterns; good contrast with the brown pants and all-white jerseys. Simple striping on the legs, big block numbering on the jerseys, and very basic, which I like. The socks are a bit much, but as long as the players weren't wrapping them around their legs candy-cane style (which a few of them were), they are certainly unique and give the uniforms a little flair where most are otherwise pretty boring.
I, for whatever reason, love a basic helmet with the number on the side a la the Alabama Crimson Tide. It is simple, looks cool, and pays homage to the old-school. I'm a big fan of teams that keep their logo simple - a blank, team-color only helmet; a solid and simple letter to designate your team or state; or like this, a player's number. One solid stripe down the middle of the helmet.
Anyway, these uniforms were worn in '09 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the creation of the AFL, and all 8 of the original AFL teams wore their throwback jerseys at least twice.
I should note that the yellow and brown ensemble the Broncos wore on the road are not going to be included on my list but would have had I made it a "top 6 worst/best" series. You may be shocked at this, but once you see which teams make up the rest of the "worst-of" list, you should understand better my thinking.
