Last week we SBNation bloggers brought you our votes for the best QBs in the NFC West. Among the choices were St. Louis' Sam Bradford, Arizona's triumvirate of John Skelton, Max Hall, and Derek Anderson, Seattle's Matt Hasselbeck and Charlie Whitehurst, and San Francisco's Alex Smith. Probably Bradford
but looking at that field, not saying much.
It's still Hasselbeck
If the question is “Best QB in the NFC West AT THIS MOMENT.” Bradford is still all potential- could still become the next Rick Mirer for all we know.

Who would you rather start for the Seahawks in 2011? Bradford.
Who would you rather play against (assuming you wanted to win)? Hasselbeck.
Bradford has the worst receiving corps in the division. Give him any others – Seahawks, Cards, niners – and he kicks ass.
No question he is now, at this moment, the best QB in the division. Maybe that changes with FA – who knows. But for now…
at this moment
Hass isn’t under contract and not part of the NFC West… Still doesn’t make Bradford better though
Bradford, no question
I don’t see how it can be otherwise, unless he slumps like hell but that’s a future consideration.
I have to disagree with Johnny here. There’s no contest at this moment. Hasselbeck hasn’t had steady performances better than Bradford since 2007. It’s time to get over it. It’s possible Bradford will never be as good as Hasselbeck was at his peek, though he has the potential to be much better.
But just glance at last year. Yes Bradford played in a more limited offense and that hampered the team, though it’s hard to tell how much that’s him and how much it is the OC. Yes, Hasselbeck at his peak games (like against Nola) outperformed Bradford. But with his injury and interception-proneness, how can you feel more comfortable with Hasselbeck as your starter than Bradford? That’s too homeristic for me.

Trade Matt for Bradford ? In a heartbeat. But...
Given a solid line , a run game , and a pro-bowl receiver I’ll take Matt any Sunday.
Those are conditions that, by definition, can only apply to 6 teams at a time
(if we’re not counting pro bowl replacement players)
That’s setting some very specific must-succeed circumstances.
I can’t believe we’re still having this conversation as Seahawks fans. It’s long since been time to move on from Matt.

Bradford
Won more games than Hasselbeck.
I don't have a gun, but if I did, I would shoot a baby deer in the mouth and feel nothing. Louis CK
With the Locos, yes
And he hasn’t been with the Hawks since May 2010 anyway. It’s a joke option.

Oh c'mon guys, really?
Hasselbeck almost tied with Bradford? Are we GNN like crazy or what?

In defense of Hasselbeck
Yes, Bradford will PROBABLY be the better QB in the 2011 season, but it hasn’t happened yet… Given a chance to drive a stake in our hearts and take the division, Bradford got outplayed by… Charlie Whitehurst… and does anyone think that if the Rams had won the NFC West, Bradford would have led STL to an upset of the World Champion Saints? Or had this stat line? 22/35 for 272 yards and 4 TDs.
Also, Fuck Bradford and Mother Fuck the Fucking Rams.

Bradford was already the better QB in 2010
The interesting thing about Bradford is that unlike most rookies, he kind of got worse as the season progressed, and the gamebook got cut down more and more. That is one of the things that lead to their W17 loss, but again it’s hard to tell who is to blame for that.
Hasselbeck excelled against Nola. But can you really argue that wasn’t a fluke? It’s the only time in the season he threw 4 TDs, never throwing more than 2 in the regular season. Meanwhile, his yard-per-game and completion percentage were inferior to Bradford’s, while he turned the ball over 22 times to Bradford’s 17.
You mention Bradford got outplayed by Charlie? What about when Hasselbeck faced Bradford? He significantly outplayed Hasselbeck to the tune of 289 yards 2-1 TD-INT versus 191 yards 0-1 TD-INT.
He is the greatest QB in Seahawks history, but he hasn’t been acceptable as a starter for years now. Bradford wasn’t great, but he was at least acceptable.

I think Bradford was good
and he may become very good in time. I don’t see him becoming #1 overall pick good, though. Overall, I think Hasselbeck is the better QB, despite his declining physical skills. He may even be the better QB next year. After that, it’s a crapshoot, and Bradford becomes a name we’ll curse twice a season for the next decade.
Declining?
He injured himself jogging lightly into the endzone. He is well past declined physical skills, his physical skills are gone.
Look, other than the Nola game, which just goes to show that the problem with age is very often not that you can’t peak anymore but that you can’t keep it up for an entire season, are there any actual pro-Hasselbeck arguments in this mess? He was inferior in pretty much every relevant stat, including advanced ones, and that’s with a notably superior surrounding cast.

Lots of "confirmation bias"
As far as the injury, I believe the root cause was him taking unprotected falls because of his broken left wrist.
Since all of us are hawks fans here and we have a fairly polarized view of Hasselbeck, we will not be able to come to a meaningful conclusion to this debate, however, it’s fun to read these comments!
Unprotected fall? We're talking about someone who injured himself lightly jogging into the endzone
I know this is a polarizing debate but I thought we’d got over the hump. People arguing after 2008 or even 2009 that Matt was still a viable short-term starter, well, I could see the point though I wasn’t too opinionated on it myself. But now? Really?

Didn't mean to insult you...
Just pointing out the fact that he had been taking unprotected falls to his left because of his left wrist injury. If one takes enough falls to their side, their hip will get bruised eventually (highly recommend trying it) :). I agree, it looked awful how on the field.
You're wrong on this one, goatweed's got the right idea
The real damage was caused by unbraced falls onto his hip.

The sum of Bradford's season was markedly better.
And the poll question was “Who is the best QB in the NFC West?”
Better season, better physical tools, age in his favor, better results with inferior surrounding talent. Bradford wins out.
I voted DA
He may not be the most accurate, he may not throw a lot of touchdowns, he might not make the smartest decisions at times, but he sure as heck got one thing other NFC West QB’s don’t have: SWAG

Chuckle.

It's Bradford.
Not the most confident of picks, due only to his youth and a relatively small sampling of games. Hasselbeck, even at his age and declining skills pushes Bradford.
Looking at the group as a whole, it’s pretty clear to me why the NFC West has the rep as being the worst division in the league.
I think it kinda depends on how you interpret what it means to be "best."
If I had to win one game today (be it a playoff game or a winner-in game to make the playoffs), I’d pick Matt.
On the other hand, I fully expect Bradford to improve and Matt to further regress this year, so if I had to win one game at the end of year to make the playoffs, I’d take Bradford.
And if I had to pick a QB to lead my team for the entire season ,it would be Bradford.
