Our first re-signing of our fairly sizeable free agent group, after Brandon Stokley, Olindo Mare and Will Herring leave for other teams, the team has agreed to re-sign LB Matt McCoy as soon as we can (Friday).
McCoy is 28 and has never really been a starting-level LB. He was a special teamer for the Bucs and a special teamer for us last year, albeit a good one, leading the team in ST tackles. Pete Carroll values special teams play very highly, but I still feel it's a very long shot for McCoy to make the roster.
Addition: the contract is a one-year veteran minimum contract, which further underscores how long the odds are of him making the team over our rookies.
