Seahawks Sign OT James Carpenter, to Re-sign LB Leroy Hill, Five Players Released
Our first-round pick, RT James Carpenter, has agreed to terms with the Seahawks and will join practice, per Danny O'Neil. No numbers yet, I'd guess it's probably in the range of $5-6 million fully guaranteed over four years. John Moffitt is the only Seahawks draft pick to remain unsigned, hopefully he'll be on board soon. With Gallery then signing and joining our offensive line would finally be able to practice together.
Update: the deal is reported as four years, $7.641 million, with $6.22 million guaranteed.
The Seahawks have also agreed to terms with OLB Leroy Hill. I was asked about Hill a few times over twitter and in comments, there has been pretty much no market for him and our current FO showed how much they value him by restructuring his contract to get rid of him. Again, no numbers yet, but I'm hoping/guessing it's a short near-veteran minimum contract.
And finally, Danny O'Neil lets us know that the Seahawks released OG Chris White and OT Stacy Andrews, and waived LB Joe Pawalek, DT Barrett Moen and DB James Brindley. We already knew about Andrews' impending release. Anthony Heygood also seemed to be set to release but no confirmation on him as of yet. If this list of names seems familiar, it's because Danny noted they were absent from practice. None of these releases are surprising or worrisome.

Please be true please be true please be true please be true
It would mean our defense doesn’t step backwards this off-season.
PLEASE!
Still expect to see another LB signed.
Could Hill have really lost his pass rush acumen? From the injuries?
Head of catering.
I was actually thinking
That Hill wouldn’t be the worst Leo in the world. Early in his career he was pretty nasty coming on the blitz, and pass coverage was always his weakness.

I like this move and here's why:
If Tatupu goes down, Heater can move to the middle and Hill can sub for Heater. Problem solved. Plus, we can use Hill in some pass-rushing situations – something he’s good at but often underutilized doing.
Sidney Rice: Superstar.
Exactly
The WLB also has a lot of run support responsibilities, which Hill excels in (when he’s been healthy).

My initial thoughts exactly!
He’s still a pretty damn good OLB when he’s healthy and wants to play. Plus its not like he’s old.

As long as we don't have Craig Terrill on the roster, I'm pretty much good with it.

and Jennings...
I’m totally cool with Thrumond and his awesome haircut taking Jennings spot…

that cut
could probably intercept passes all on it’s own, unlike Jennings….

Is it possible......?
that Hill has finally overcome his achilles injury and all the drama/turmoil that he had in his personal life. I don’t mind a low flier on Hill as we’ve seen what he’s capable of when he’s been playing at or near his best, however Ben Leber or Zac Diles would be a nice addition just in case Hill has lost his ability to pass-rush.
This has to be his last chance, maybe not just with the Seahawks but in the NFL period.
Performance is one thing but if he values his career, he’ll be on his best behavior.
Was it his achilles?
I thought he injured is groin or something like that?
by RawkEmHawkEmBirdbots on Jul 29, 2011 9:24 AM PDT up reply actions
His achilles put him on IR after the 2nd week of 2010
His groin issues took him out for 6-8 weeks in 2009.

Clayton said they were closer to a deal
but no deal yet. I also love how he calls him MeBane and not just Mebane.
I hope Carpenter is ready to crush some skulls.
Unfortunately Moffitt is still standing around picking is nose.

Is nobody excited about getting Leroy back?
It wasn’t that long ago that he was DESTROYING WR’s catching in the slot, stuffing run games, and terrorizing QB’s.
He’s a natural and loves playing for the Hawks. Didn’t he risk getting fined by the NFL for making the home opener last year to support the team?
I for one have always been a huge Leroy fan, and expect him to find a way into the starting lineup sooner rather than later. If Tats goes down, Hawthorne at his natural MLB position, and hill back where he belongs.
DOPE!
Ka-Kaaa!
Sounds like Tatupu is already (presumed hurt and) not practicing
According to @BrockandSalk a few minutes ago on their show.
So tired of his BS.
Every year.
Is his small size finally getting the best of him. Seriously over it.
Ka-Kaaa!
He was good a few years ago
and then he never played, like you said, injuries and whatnot (at least, that’s what I remember, if someone knows more then please correct me), so yeah lets see what we still have in him.

I'm definitely stoked to have him back,
He was a promising young LB for a few years then completely fell off the Seahawks train. IF he can get focused outside of football and healthy on the field I know hes a starting caliber OLB. Until then, he’s simply OLB depth.

Me!
He had that awesome goal line stop against Arizona in 2009.
Recently engaged! Best. Off-season. Ever.
Danny O'Neil
on Brock and Salk says that they’ve been close for the past 24 hrs to making a deal with Mebane, predicts a deal gets done very soon now.

It's going to be interesting to see the trades in the 2012 draft given how much cheaper the top 10 contracts are
Trading into the top 3 seems a lot more plausible now however undoubtedly more expensive than last year
Apparently Pete Carroll doesn’t like how Charlie Whitehurst holds a clipboard

Right-on Leroy. Just remember, "It aint worth it"
Whatever it is if it could cost you that cool job, smile & walk away. He got railroaded over some really minor stuff , but that’s what they do. It’s only a free country if you follow all the rules.
So why was he told to keep away from camp last year?
I was sure he was a goner. They must have changed their minds. Anyway I’m happy, Hill is yet another badass to add to this team
Apparently Pete Carroll doesn’t like how Charlie Whitehurst holds a clipboard
He was away from camp because of all the legal stuff..
The coaches didn’t want him to be a distraction from the young guys.
He was in the middle of the domestic abuse case I think.
Smart move by the coaches to show authority and make a point.
Ka-Kaaa!
