John Carlson
Does anyone know why we haven't traded John Carlson for Osi Umenyiora yet? The Giants desperately need a TE and we have 1 to spare. Osi would be a perfect fit over Red Bryant. Do the Giants really think that Daniel Coates is the answer for them at TE? Or Travis Beckum? Or Bear Pascoe? I thought this deal would get done almost immediately after Kevin Boss went down with an injury. Is the Front office afraid Osi would be a bad fit in the locker room? He wants away from NY that I bet he'd be a great fit in Seattle. Has anyone heard anything at all?

Well Umenyiora is out for 3-6 weeks after knee surgery.
I don’t know why we haven’t traded Carlson but I’m still considering it a possibility. It may be that despite the Saints & Bears playoff games he appeared to founder for so long, including training camp, that his trade value doesn’t match the value he still has on the team. Amid roster cutdowns the trade market is a bit of a bear, isn’t it?
Maybe Anthony McCoy would be the guy to get traded instead. I dunno. Maybe they’ll find room to keep them by keeping Morrah PUP’d. But I won’t be surprised if Carlson is traded.

Also Frith be praised, Osi again?! Do we only have a handful of topics to bounce around here on FG? Osi has no role to fulfill in our long-term future and wouldn’t really fit any rebuilding plan.

I don't think the Giants care that Kevin Boss got hurt.

I think it has something to do with life not being like Madden.

You mean the Hawks can't trade Tjack, Cole and a 4th round pick
For Jake Locker?
Well damn…

Teams like New England and Indy have been running offenses with multiple pass-catching tight ends for years.
Why is it so crazy to think the Hawks really want both of these guys together?

We run a West Coast System
which is generally a single TE set. And we have two other backups that are blocking TEs.
We like multi-TE sets
Saying “we run a west coast system” isn’t very meaningful for the Seahawks offense. Everyone runs elements of WCO in their offense

Boss is on the Raiders
Kevin Boss is a Raider now anyway so I don’t think the Giants are too concerned if he is hurt.

In addition to the above, the only time anybody ever trades one player for another is in moves like the Kelly Jennings one.
Basically that one was a “hey, I’m going to cut this guy and you’re going to cut that guy. Let’s give each other an extra day to look at each other’s dudes”. Otherwise, they just don’t happen. Expect a draft pick from the Jints if they want Carlson.

Since "Carlson-for-Osi" has been discussed before (multiple times),
this would qualify as “rosterbation” and is discouraged.
I hadn't seen the other posts...otherwise I wouldn't have made it
so it’s not really rosterbation because I was specifically asking for an update rather than just saying, ‘we should make this trade’
There is no "update" to be made.
This is because Osi and Carlson have never once been connected in a legitimate trade discussion by anybody from the NFL. Pure fan speculation. Pure rosterbation. Is it not rosterbation if I ask for an update on the Atari Bigby for Troy Polamalu trade?

there's a difference
between pulling something out of thin air and something that analysts have talked about happening. I don’t live in the Seattle area anymore so I don’t get to hear Seattle Sports Talk Radio as much. So last I had heard was from an ESPN analyst during Osi’s hold out, that ‘it would be a good fit’ for both teams. I hadn’t seen or heard anything. I was just asking for some information from people in the area. Don’t bite a guys head off.
Red Bryant is a perfectly fine starting five tech.
His ability to seal the edge is more useful than Osi getting a sack every now and then.
Can we please stop asking fir a Carlson trade.
Especially involving an older DE with knee problems. Pete has stated that he plans to use Carlson AND Miller. And anyone who questions or wants to trade Carlson doesn’t get it (the plan), or along those lines. Personally, I’m excited to see both Miller and Carlson on the field. A lot of teams use two TE sets with pass catching TEs. A good example is Gronkowski and Hernandez in NE.

Hmm, lotta backlash. It's not unreasonable to consider that Seattle might try to move Carlson.

The Carlson for Osi talk seems pretty unreasonable though.
The Hawks would likely have to sweeten the pot with a fairly high draft pick and they’re just not going to do that for someone of Osi’s age, cost and health. Also, if it was going to happen it likely would have been when the tight end signings went down and Osi was being shopped. Carlson might get moved but it’ll be for a Clinton McDonald type or a mid round pick, the Osi stuff is just rosterbation at this point.
Yeah I think the Umenyiora-specific trade is unlikely.
