Know Your Enemy: The San Francisco 49ers

The Seahawks fly down to San Francisco this weekend to take on the 49ers, so you should brush up on your enemy. Follow these links to do just that.

Gus Chiggins49er scouting report.

49ers Offensive Coordinator Greg Roman Discusses Seahawks Matchup - Niners Nation - 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman took some time today to chat with the media about Sunday's game with the Seahawks. We've got some ideas about what to expect from the 49ers offense, but with a truncated offseason there are still plenty of question marks as to what we'll see this Sunday and further into the season. As Coach Roman states after the jump, the offense will likely have less volume than we would have seen if there had been no lockout.

49ers vs. Seahawks: Predicting The Unpredictable? - Niners Nation - As we head into Sunday's 49ers-Seahawks game, I was hoping to put together a prediction post for individual stats for the game. Maybe have everybody post their predictions for Alex Smith, Frank Gore, Vernon Davis, Braylon Edwards and Michael Crabtre, among others. We've been listening to what the coaches have to say and trying to anticipate the plans for Sunday and it might be fun to have everybody throw out their best guesses on the skill position players.

49ers vs. Seahawks Preview: SS Donte Whitner vs. TE Zach Miller - Niners Nation - This past offseason, the San Francisco 49ers acquired a new signal caller. No, not Colin Kaepernick -- I'm talking about safety Donte Whitner. During his tenure in Buffalo, Whitner made all the calls for their defense and is now being asked by San Francisco to take control of the secondary.

49ers vs. Seahawks: The Jim Harbaugh Era Begins In Earnest - SB Nation Bay Area - Following the debacle in Seattle to open the 2010 season, the 49ers hope to get the Jim Harbaugh era off to a better start against the Seahawks. We'll be here with news updates, injury reports and recaps of the game.

49ers WRs vs. Seahawks: Time to Get The Ball Rolling - Niners Nation - Phew... The 49ers dodged a bullet when they received news that their new big-play acquisition will not be penalized by the league by means of a suspension. Instead, the socially troublesome Braylon Edwards will be forced to pay a $50,000 fine for violating the leagues substance abuse policy.

49ers vs. Seahawks: Will We See Some Surprises From The 49ers Defense? - Niners Nation - Much of the preseason we have been discussing the idea that the 49ers offense is keeping things relatively vanilla in order to avoid revealing too much before the start of the season. The question we haven't discussed is how much the defense has revealed to date and what we will see this Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks. Yesterday before practice, cornerback Tarell Brown commented on the subject:

Alex Smith, Offensive Line Ready For the Pass Rush? - Niners Nation - Alex Smith spoke with the media today and discussed a variety of issues heading into the 49ers matchup this Sunday with the Seattle Seahawks. One of the issues he mentioned that is on all of our minds is the idea that teams could bring a lot of pressure against the 49ers this season. The line performed well against the Raiders and Chargers but was completely bulldozed by the Saints and Texans.

Pete Carroll vs. Jim Harbaugh: Can't Get Enough Of It - Niners Nation - One of the biggest storylines heading into Sunday's 49ers-Seahawks matchup is the return of Jim Harbaugh vs. Pete Carroll. In reality it's likely an entirely overblown storyline. Harbaugh might want to take down Carroll, but in reality it's no big deal. Of course, that doesn't mean we're not going to enjoy every last drop of it.

Ted Ginn Discusses The Wide Receiver Position In The 49ers System - Niners Nation - Ted Ginn Jr. took a few minutes to chat with CSN Bay Area yesterday about preparing for the season and the work the wide receivers have done thus far in training camp (h/t to Drew for finding this video). The highlight had to be Anthony Dixon walking by behind Ginn and letting the audience know how he felt. He certainly does enjoy himself.

49ers-Seahawks Injury News: Dashon Goldson Does Not Expect To Play Sunday - Niners Nation - In case there was any need for clarification, Eric Branch just tweeted that 49ers free safety Dashon Goldson does not expect to play Sunday versus the Seahawks. This would mean either Reggie Smith or Madieu Williams would get the start in his place. It sounds like Reggie Smith is back at practice and recovered from his torn meniscus. On the other hand, Madieu Williams got almost all the free safety playing time against the Chargers. I guess we'll just have to wait until game day to see the starting lineup.

He is a bad interview.

He is as testy as if he’d just lost six straight. How will he act when he actually does lose a ton of games? If only we didn’t have to wait mere weeks to find out.

Yea what if the 49ers lose a bunch of games?

That’ll surprise everyone right? They’ll all be like, Harbaugh why do you suck so bad as a coach? And he’ll be all, I can’t answer that question the way you worded it because then I’ll be saying I think I’m a bad coach, and I’m not. Then they’ll reword it to say Harbaugh why are you losing so many games? Then he’ll say I think we’ve made some good progress out there against some pretty good football teams. We just aren’t finishing the game, or we just aren’t executing 100% yet.

I figure all Harbaugh interviews are going to be like that. What else are you going to say? I’d just about want reporters to leave me alone to do my job too. I think 49er fans would rather have a guy who is a good coach than a guy who kisses reporters behinds.

Yea 49er fans are funny

They like Harbaugh better than Pete Carroll. I don’t get it? There’s like some big story about the two being coaches of rival college teams. How stupid is that? Rivals, what a lame idea. Rival teams are stupid.

Yea the interview after Sunday's game is going to be even worse

He is just going to tell everyone his guys are really working hard out there and they are going to keep working to get even better.

All generic stuff like that, so boring.

Will Harbaugh continue the Niner tradition of thanking Carroll for the opening day ass-kicking?

We’ll know in just under 20 hours.

There we go, let's pretend Singletary is still coaching the 49ers.

It’s a bad sign when your own coach expresses pleasure in watching your team lose. It’s like he was mad at the franchise from when he played for the Bears. Look out Vikings.

Seriously though, good luck to the Seahawks this season. I hope the birdies do well, just not against the 49ers.

Yea softies, they're gonna quit like soft softies

They don’t have anybody good on their team and the seahawks have all the best players. Can’t wait till the game, the Seahawks can just vacation out there since the 49ers are so soft, such softies.

What a great prediction sir, you are a genius.

Didn't say they dont have anybody good, did I?

You can’t tell me those players are buying into Jimmay? First Alex is the started with CK the back up? What if Alex goes down? Two QBs on the roster? Fandingo ( I know spelling) is a horrible DC. The list is long. Go back and watch those pre season games.. Once they were down it was half effort. No need for Insults, k pumpkin?

I wouldn't insult you're genius

Clearly you did your homework, watching those preseason games and all. The 49ers two quarterback situation sounds bad. Did that other quarterback from San Diego get hurt? I guess the list is too long for me to refute them all, obviously you know best. I concede to your great wisdom.

Since I’m already behind, I think I’ll just give up.

Why reply then?

Tolzien is his name and he’s been with the team 6 days… So ya two QBs unless this kid is amazing and can learn the play book in that short of time. Doubtful but you never know. Best idea you have had… To just give up mmm sounds like a NFL team I know.. you wouldnt happen to be a fan of the 49ers?

Grammer? Really?

Please correct my grammer, it’s so cool to comment on people’s grammer on the sports blog.

They're more like a frenemy to me.

These were my two favorite teams as a kid, and I always pretended to be Dwight Clark when I played. But they’ve been real hard to like since the Yorks took over for Eddie D and we got moved into the NFC west.

I still really hate Denver and the Raiders. Old habits die hard you know.

That's how I always felt about the 49ers - Seahawks as well.

I was always a Packer-Cowboy hater. Now I have learned not to hate, but to crush my enemies. But without hating them, kinda indifferently. Like when I squash bugs, or poisen rats. Crush them out, but really take no pleasure in it. They have to go, and I just squash them like bugs. I don’t feel good about it or bad. It just happens, and then it’s over.

I was a 49er fan in the glory days (Bandwagon jumper)

But when the Seahawks moved back to the NFC the 49ers transformed into the evil organization they are today . So I don’t like them now.

Charmin Soft

49’r fans are delusional but even they don’t have a clue what to expect tommorow. The coaching staff seems to be wondering as well.

It's hilarious how little the 49er fans think of our team.

They actually expect to blow us out and Smith will carve us up….
