Seahawks Injury Report, News and Rumors For Wednesday
Injury Report:
The big news: Robert Gallery was a full go at practice today and thus it's looking good for his return to the lineup on Sunday versus the Steelers. If this happens, it's looking like James Carpenter will move back to the right tackle position and Breno Giacomini will lose his spot there with the starting unit. This is just speculation at this point though -- I suppose it's entirely possible that Carpenter goes to the bench or the Hawks reshuffle things in a different way. Apparently Carpenter played RT with the ones at practice today; Giacomini with the twos. Keep an eye on that.
Sidney Rice was limited. He suited up and did some individual drills but did not partake in the team portion of practice, per Eric Williams. It's not really looking good that he'll play and I'm sure the Seahawks aren't in a particular rush to get him back out there.
David Hawthorne is back to practice and went full speed today. He should be good to go for Sunday. It will be nice to have him back.
Michael Robinson, Byron Maxwell, Malcolm Smith, and Jarriel King all did not participate. The loss of Robinson, Maxwell, and now possibly Smith further underscores the Seahawks need for help in special teams, and is no doubt a big part of the reason that Eddie Williams was signed yesterday.
Roster News and Rumors:
In other news, John Clayton was on the Kevin Calabro show yesterday and mentioned that the Eddie Williams signing doesn't necessarily preclude the Seahawks from signing FB Mike Karney. It hasn't happened at this point, even after two visits by the veteran, so I'm kind of doubting that it does. This front office is very hard to predict though.
Other than that, not a whole lot going on that I have seen. What about you guys? Open Thread time -- discuss!

Throw the ball!
I was watching the replay of the Cards-Panthers game… Cam Newton was not afraid to make a mistake… He went out there and just gunned it around. Stop playing scared Tjack! Play like you did in the 2nd half of the 49er game and we might have a chance at beating Ben Butt-burgular!

Funny you mention it.
Will have a full writeup on this very fact (not the cam comparison, but still) tomorrow morning hopefully.

I guess it's not a fact -- on the idea that he's playing too conservatively.

I looked at how I think PC’s philosophy might be affecting TJax in this manner. You can read it here if you haven’t already.

Eternally looking forward to someone making a Seahawks song based off of Lil' Jon's "Shots" song named "Hawks!"
I'm sure it will be a good write up!

Use the Oop-De-Oop
Then he’ll have to either pass/throw, with five wideouts.
Why? Because PC and JS said so!

While I seriously don't think that would work
I would like to see it in the NFL at least once…
I hate to say i told you so
But this spring when there were whispers of the Rice aquisition I said something to the tune of, “I feel like Rice will Deion Branch on us.” This has been one more step in that direction. Of course I hope I’m wrong.
2/3 of the world is covered by water. The rest is covered by Marcus Trufant.
Rice didn't cost us a first round pick or any pick for that mattter
Second Branch was healthy before coming to Seattle. But I get what ur saying. If Rice ends up not playing much this year (which would be my quess) Seattle has way more talent at the wr position then they did when Branch was on the team.

Im sure
his injuries are not that bad. I bet he will be back for the home opener.

The other issue with Branch was that he simply wasn't the kind of WR who would be successful with Hasselbeck.
Hass did well with good-hands guys who could pick a ball from the one location Hass could throw it to where the defender couldn’t reach the ball (which is also why he did so well with BMW – Hass could just aim high and get it in). He wasn’t so good at finding a guy whose primary skills were in getting separation from his DB because his arm even going back to 2008 wasn’t strong enough to put the ball into windows like that.
The fact that Branch kept getting hurt didn’t help things a lot, but it’s not like he was mega-productive when he did play. And, it should be pointed out, he’s been just fine with Brady.

What about Golden Tate?
Would he explode if Tom Brady were throwing to him? Just wondering which of our WRs are similar to Branch. Doug Baldwin?
Branch had flashes of brilliance in Seattle, but was never consistent.
While every WR is different, I'd put Tate as closer to a Reggie Bush style of player.
The kind of guy who doesn’t necessarily have skills in getting separation without the ball but who is potentially deadly with it. See also: Devin Hester. Branch was more of a good route-runner who could get the separation. Cris Carter, perhaps?

When he got here, Branch reminded me of Carolina's Steve Smith.
Both are short and quick….I don’t know, it’s probably not the best comparison. In 2006 Branch looked like he could be Smith-like, but coming over after the season started prevented any kind of chemistry to develop with Matt (then getting hurt so much in 2007 probably had a similar effect). Once he got healthy in 2009, he just didn’t look like the same receiver.
It’s possible that, if Branch didn’t get hurt, that he could have developed a bond with Matt, but maybe it just wasn’t meant to be.
Yeah, I was thinking about Smith as well.
I just think Smith has better hands and overall has more tools than Branch. That’s nothing against Branch, as I think Smith is kind of a borderline HOFer who would not be borderline at all if he consistently had a good QB throwing him the ball. There have been years where Steve Smith was the only worthwhile weapon Carolina had.

You mean, every year since Mushin Muhammed left?
As far as Panther receivers go, it’s been Smith and a whole lotta nuthin’ for a loooooong time now.
The New England offense is all about knowing where you need to go, and, well, being there
That’s why Branch did work with Beck, because he’s a good route runner. But then his biggest asset was speed, not hands/size, so it kinda fell apart there.
I don’t know if any of our current WRs have the route discipline needed to run in the Patriots offense. Watch Ochicinco flounder there to see why it is needed.

These kind of things
and what Cosell said about our offense, underscore how important it is to draft by cliche. For QBs. A guy who can “make all the throws” actually is important, and if you don’t have it it can affect what you can do, even in compounding ways. We felt that with Hasselbeck and we’re feeling that with Jackson.

Its a great week
to bring the pressure on Ben. I would do the complete opposite of what we did last weekend both on O and D.

Anyboddy else get annoyed
hearing the guys on the radio pronounce Breno’s name Jack-O-Meany?
70% of space is covered by dark matter, the rest by ET.
that's probably because Carroll calls him "Giac", like Jack

Jack was on the radio last week,
and told the two (can’t remember which two) hosts how to pronounce it. They got it right for the next hour or so.

How dare you equate RoethlisBRARGLE with a Stark!

If it's proper Italian it's Jyahkomeenee.

Jyah or G-ah?
One or two syllables? Two sounds better.

One. The i after the g basically informs you to use the soft consonant.

It's Jah-Coh-Mee-Nee
The “i” is so subtle that you shouldn’t bother with it unless you speak italian. Thank god we don’t have any Italian players with “gli” in their names.
That's my favorite phoneme of them all!
I always make sure I pronounce Pagliacci’s Pizza in that manner, just so I can get away with pronouncing the “gli” in the middle. [/yearandahalfofcollegeitalian]

Which proves what a world of hurt the Giants are in.
If their defense is not healed up we have a good shot at beating them on the road.

Carpenter at RT blocking Lamar Woodley?
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHHAAHHAHAHHAAHAHAHAH! Gallery would probably fare better there. Is it legal to play TWO TEs on the right side of the formation outside of Carpenter?
Woodley will have 10 sacks in the first quarter. :(
2011: F*%ked.
Miller will cut block him... End of story

I'd start Polumbus
Not that Polumbus is all that great, but Carp needs to improve his footwork before we can let him start at RT.

Will there be a post weekly on the leaders of all the Field Gulls leagues or only at the end of the season? It would be interesting to see the high scores from across all the leagues.
the photags did a really good job down there. THere were tons of really good pictures from that game.
