Introducing the David Vobora Memorial Sportsbook

THERE was a brief discussion of the correct betting line for this week's game, and it got me to thinking-- I am running a 'shadow betting' contest with my friends this year, so why not run one on the board too?  I call it 'shadow betting' because the units aren't worth anything, but at some point in a few years when I have discretionary income I want to bet for real, so I consider myself 'in training'.  And it's fun, trying to guess what the upcoming spreads should be, and then taking a position.  Just another way for 'hawk fans to express their love for the game over what is likely to be another up and down year.

We'll always have Wedgewood.

RULES:

1. Every player starts the year with 50 units.

2. You may wager up to five (5) units per game, and in as many games as you like per week.  Bets as small as one-half unit (1/2) will be booked.  No vig will be charged, but keep in mind, you need to win 52.5% of your bets over time to break even.

3. Once you go broke, that's it.

4. Post the games you are taking a position on, and for how many units.  Sometimes the spread moves.  If the spread has moved and is other than I have posted, please note in your bet the current line you are getting.

5. I will keep a running tally on the leaderboard and laud much praise to the winner.

Star-divide

My picks:  I absolutely love Pittsburgh this week, so I'm taking them and the points for three units, which is a big bet for me.  I like the Rams with the points at home for two units, and I like Buffalo and Seattle to beat the spread, as well as Houston to cover, for one unit each.  So, that's eight units in action!  I know, kids, watch out.

Shouldn't be that rough if there's only a few of us.

Should be a couple more when my friends join, but there’s now a 3-day waiting period.

That San Diego – Minnesota game could go in any direction. The Chargers don’t seem to show up until October, we’ll see if that’s changed this year.

I am only ever betting Seahawks to win or not betting

Unless I spot a gimme :)

5 on Seattle over the 9ers Sea! Hawks!

This weeks gimmes:

2 on Philly over the Rams – The Rams may be getting better, but Vick is making 100Mil!
3 on Matt in Tennessee over the recently elevated backup at Jacksonville
5 on Houston over the Manningless Colts

Philly will so demoralize the Rams that the Rams might fold up their tent and go home this year. Philadelphia wins 31-6 and the Rams go 4-12 for the Season. (And Josh Brown pads his stats in ANOTHER losing effort by the Rams. Putz.)

TJack has a game to shut up even the most vehement naysayers, but Matt doubles his output Tennessee wins 28-7 (Which perpetuates the naysayers naysaying)

Houston shuts out Indy 10-0 Get Well Soon Peyton!

Tarvaris Jackson throws for two, our RBs run for one and our D gets 6 to boot! Throw in a FG by the new guy and it’s Seattle 31-3 in a run-away by The Bay!

My bets

5 on Houston
3 on Philly
1 on Tenn
3 on Seattle
5 on San Diego
5 on Cleveland

I am going all in week 1. Not sure I completely understand it but if it helps me get laid, why not. Women loooooooooove men who bet needlessly

I can't believe that Houston line hasn't moved more.

It’s changed a half-point and now sits at nine. Nine is a lot for week 1 but that game is too juicy to lay off of, so I’m putting three units on Houston too.
