The better team won. I hate Harbaugh’s sideline behavior but he’s a hell of a coach.

I will give credit to Davis, for manhandling the Saints D, as well as Alex Smith

which pains me to type. Without those turnovers in the 1st half, Saints win. I wasn’t impressed by the defense today.

And it’s the 49ers, so I can’t be happy for them.

I'll just wallow in my hate for a little while.

Yeah Baby! I'm a diehard Seahawks fan, but I always want the NFC West

to represent us well in the playoffs. Don’t want them to win the Superbowl, but getting to the Championship game at least ups the respect and talk about the division around the league, which also means more respect for the other teams in the division that lost to the division winner, as long as they are close to 500 or better.

This is the last 4 games for the Saints at the NFC West

10/10/10 at ARZ – Lost 30-20
1/8/11 at SEA – Lost 41-36
10/30/11 at STL – Lost 31-21
1/14/12 at SF – Lost 36-32

There’s a reason Field Gulls comments are better than ESPN comments.

That said, it’s probably well past time for a rules and guidelines post by Danny since people seem very split on what should or shouldn’t be a rule and how they should be handled.

I'm curious, what about the rules don't you like?

No religion and no politics seems like a no brainer to me. The complete sentences, no chat speak, use the subject line stuff is definitely more subjective but it seems to have served Field Gulls very well. Commenters tend to put a little extra thought in their comments because of it and it pays off in intelligent, easy to read comments.

by Nate Dogg on Jan 14, 2012 7:13 PM PST up reply actions

The rules themselves?

They are mostly fine. The treating of posters like children by the moderators (frequently during game threads) over things that aren’t explicitly in the rules and the arguments that they lead to bother me.

A moderator jumping in a thread and posting: “this is not a good comment people” without explanation bothers me. Say why or delete the damn comment. I hate having to bite my tongue wondering if “I say this will I get banned?” over some humorous joke during a game.

I don't really see that, but ok.

The site has rules and the mods have asked in the past that the community try to self police. The please use the subject line and no chat speak comments aren’t a reaction to the increased number of commenters, there was far more of it before Danny took over. But you’re right that there seems to be a different emphasis on the rules now and that’s why I said it’d be good to have some kind of official post about it.

Tebowie to God at halftime:

God, please help me score 10 touchdowns so we can beat Tom Brady and the evil, heathen Patriots.

Y'know, Tebow's play does kind of fit the narrative of a raw player

Kind of?

Is potential actually there?

I mean given the right situation and coaching, could Tebow actually become a quality if unconventional starter?

by Aztecs on Jan 14, 2012 7:08 PM PST via mobile up reply actions

I think so, yes

But he still needs a lot of work, and is hardly a sure thing even with a lot of work.

Seems like a prety tough kid mentally

But you have to wonder what a loss like this will do to him from a mental standpoint. But, maybe this will make him work even harder to become a better QB.

by Aztecs on Jan 14, 2012 7:27 PM PST via mobile up reply actions

I dunno

Fix that pitcher-wind-up of a throwing motion and I think he has at least a shot

but his fundamentals are real bad at this point

Okay, that’s it. When something goes right for me now I’m not gonna Tebow anymore, instead I will Brady (i.e. have sex with a supermodel)

I was just about to ask this.

Because when the Broncos win, nobody wants to say its because of Tebow… it’s about the defense and Matt Prater. Which is true!

When the Broncos get blown out, everybody blames it on Tebow. Which is true!

But both of those are only partial truths. People hate it when Tebow gets credit for every win but they ignore that they also blame him for every loss.

The Broncos are getting blown out. The BRONCOS. Though it is fun to do Tebow jokes.

Yeah, it's all about defense

You win when the defense keeps it down, you lose because you can’t consistently rely on the offense to duel it out in a shoot-out.

Not a very sustainable model.

by wyobo on Jan 14, 2012 7:54 PM PST reply actions

Sure, I guess

That’s not really news though. And don’t underestimate how much an elite player makes a difference. Everyone around him looks better. An elite addition to our front seven could lift this D very high. Same for QB, obviously.
