Some pretty nice match-ups today -

Houston/Penn State in the TicketCity Bowl
Ohio State/Florida in the TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl
Michigan State/Georgia in the Outback Bowl
Nebraska/South Carolina in the Capital One Bowl
Wisconsin/Oregon in the Rose Bowl
Stanford/Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl

Talk about it here! Who are you scouting, and how are they looking?

This NE-South Carolina game has potential to be pretty decent.

I haven’t seen whether anyone is projecting him to play in the NFL, but Rex Burkhead is a pretty rough and tumble runner. Sort of a John Kuhn style, lunchpail guy. (I know, i just compared two white guys to each other)

I don't like the Huskers, but I hate the SEC.

Go Nebraska.

The Gator bowl looks like two crappy teams

that can’t score, don’t have a QB, mediocre defenses and OK records.

None of the excitement of a UW/Baylor game, and none of the humiliating domination of a LSU/Bama game.

Yeah getting ASU in Vegas sucked.

I was pulling for a BCS bowl but apparently Michigan and VT draw bigger crowds.

by The Cheese on Jan 2, 2012 10:40 AM PST up reply actions

I wish they would have just given BSU a real BCS matchup.

Any of the teams in the big games except maybe VT and Michigan would have dominated them, and I’m tired of watching them win bowl games.

by wetzelcoal on Jan 2, 2012 11:08 AM PST up reply actions

I seriously doubt BSU would lose to a Pac-12 team.

Or Wisconsin for that matter. They always play up, I’m looking forward to the next year or two where we reload and maybe lose 2 games in a season. Then its right back to being undefeated and in the BCS conversation. Truth is BSU beat more teams with a winning record than Alabama did.

by The Cheese on Jan 2, 2012 11:13 AM PST up reply actions

I'd say Boise, and maybe Stanford

are the only teams outside of Bama that have a team that could realistically challenge LSU this year.

Just based on the way teams match up.

70% of space is covered by dark matter, the rest by ET.

by hazbro24 on Jan 2, 2012 11:20 AM PST up reply actions

I love BSU but..

LSU would beat the crap out of us then proceed to bend us over and have there way. I don’t think Stanford would even score ten points on BSU. I thought LSU/OSU was the match up, the Big 12 was the best conference in the BCS this year and actually plays defense.

by The Cheese on Jan 2, 2012 11:24 AM PST up reply actions

Boise and stanford are the only teams

with enough combination of size up front and speed coupled with passing game to beat LSU.

LSU can be beat through the air.

70% of space is covered by dark matter, the rest by ET.

by hazbro24 on Jan 2, 2012 11:37 AM PST up reply actions

Perhaps.

I’ll give you BSU because I think they can beat anyone but not Stanford. They just aren’t that good. They can’t play defense (like everyone in the Pac-12) and wouldn’t match the offensive production of LSU.

by The Cheese on Jan 2, 2012 11:40 AM PST up reply actions

LSU's offense isn't that great.

70% of space is covered by dark matter, the rest by ET.

by hazbro24 on Jan 2, 2012 12:43 PM PST up reply actions

It really isn't

Oregon should have won. Thomas threw 240 on them without a running game. 4 turnovers for 20 points, Cliff Harris (punt returner/CB) being gone and starting someone who shouldn’t have really was the cause of at least 14 of those points with the fumble and the TD pass allowed by horrible coverage.

It takes a big man to admit when he's wrong. I am NOT a big man.

by SGT Lenny on Jan 2, 2012 1:03 PM PST up reply actions

You're kidding right?

Wisconsin is going to put up 40 and maybe give up 20, maybe. Oregon and the Pac-12 in general makes the Big East look like a quality conference. No one in the conference plays defense.

by The Cheese on Jan 2, 2012 11:31 AM PST up reply actions

Outside of USC of course.

I can’t knock the Trojans, they are a force for next season.

by The Cheese on Jan 2, 2012 11:33 AM PST up reply actions

You underestimate the Pac 12 defenses.

They are the only D’s in the country that play against NFL QB’s every other week.

Wow.

I talk english good. I meant to ask: Who outside of Luck and Barkely is close to NFL ready?

by The Cheese on Jan 2, 2012 11:45 AM PST up reply actions

I don't know about NFL ready.

Foles, and Price are both better than any QB in the SEC and maybe the Big 10, and Thomas is pretty damn good too.

by wetzelcoal on Jan 2, 2012 11:51 AM PST up reply actions

I'll give you Foles.

Considering Aaron Murry is the best QB in the SEC thats not saying much. The Big 10 has some quality QBs. I don’t live in Seattle anymore so I can’t say much about Price but from what I hear he’s like a better, faster, stronger, more accurate version of Locker so maybe.

by The Cheese on Jan 2, 2012 11:58 AM PST up reply actions

Overall I agree with you that the Pac-12 is an offense first conference.

That being said though, Oregon will be by far the best offense Wisconsin has played this year.

by wetzelcoal on Jan 2, 2012 12:04 PM PST up reply actions

Agreed.

However, Oregon won’t be able to run on Wisconsin. It will be a fun game to watch. Like I said it won’t BE close but it will FEEL close.

by The Cheese on Jan 2, 2012 12:08 PM PST up reply actions

Oregon will run plenty on Wisconsin

There is so much hate for the Ducks here. Oregon will exhaust Wisconsin to the point of them faking injury to get a breather.

It takes a big man to admit when he's wrong. I am NOT a big man.

by SGT Lenny on Jan 2, 2012 12:37 PM PST via mobile up reply actions

Umm...

Oregon is running ALL over Wisconsin. The reverse is true as well, but these teams look pretty evenly matched.

by BlueThruAndThru on Jan 2, 2012 3:43 PM PST up reply actions

Brock Osweiler will go pro too.

Cal, Oregon, and UCLA are the only teams that don’t have pro prospects. (Utah and Colorado don’t count yet-give em a couple years to get up to speed)

70% of space is covered by dark matter, the rest by ET.

by hazbro24 on Jan 2, 2012 12:39 PM PST up reply actions

Bennett may have a shot for Oregon at some point

But they’re definitely a unique system that isn’t seen in the NFL. Thomas for Oregon has pretty good zip on the ball, you have to give him that much credit.

Really?

I don’t know where all the Oregon hate is coming from, but they had a chance to best LSU and wasn’t that game in Texas with an overwhelmingly pro LSU audience? I’m a UW husky fan first but I don’t have an irrational hatred for the ducks. I do however have a hatred of all things SEC.

by brugg on Jan 2, 2012 1:25 PM PST via mobile up reply actions

It is what it is

And Oregon could have won that game (Cliff Harris was a huge part of the continuity on D/ST), and Wisconsin isn’t as good as LSU. 20 points off turnovers, lots of guys who hadn’t played a game yet, etc etc.

It takes a big man to admit when he's wrong. I am NOT a big man.

Just a slug it out game.

Both Oregon and Wisconsin can run at will, and both can pass adequately enough to get long 3rd downs when they choose not to run it. Going to be more scoring in the 2nd half. Adjustments will happen, but I don’t think either offense will be slowed that much.

He's a lot smaller than BMW (6'1"/212ish)

I don’t think he’s as fast as Boldin. Mike Williams (TB) seems fairly apt from what I’ve seen. You’ve seen some good examples of his body control tonight. He uses his body to create space pretty well, and has strong hands. Can be a bit boneheaded at times though.

As Rob Staton just tweeted, he’s a type A player without elite size or speed, so that could cause some issues. I’m a pretty big fan though.

by Matt Erickson on Jan 2, 2012 8:15 PM PST up reply actions

I'm not sure I agree

The need for a legit WR2 correlates negatively with your overall WR depth. If you have enough WR depth to flex and move you don’t really need a “true” WR2 of the level of Anquan Boldin. I think the Seahawks might well have that depth.

Stanford's offense is not particularly dynamic this year.

They are very workman like, and seem to rebound from negative plays so well. Really solid and disciplined team. Not spectacular very often, just get the job done. Okie State has some very flashy players, more speed, and some individual talent on D that makes big plays, but it’s amazing to watch the contrast between the two teams unfold in a fairly even game.

Barely got the ball across as he slid off to the right and started coming to the bottom of the pile...

but it does look like, after getting pushed back at first, he did manage to just get the nose of the ball over the white line. The whistle hadn’t blown, so a good job keeping himself going there.

This is going to be an awesome final few minutes!

Yeah, tough, hard fought games. If we come out of this 2-0, that's pretty awesome.

Also, given Washington nearly keeping up with Baylor, despite a defense that shits the bed, the Pac 12 has been looking good overall.

what was stanford doing at the end of regulation?

you let 40+ seconds run off the clock when you have three timeouts and choose to kick a 43 yard field goal when your kicker already missed a 41 yarder. seriously don’t understand.

by spoonbill on Jan 2, 2012 9:29 PM PST reply actions

Yeah, the two runs to start the OT doomed Stanford, really.

The coach was just too conservative and put Stanford into tough spot. The kicker should have won it for them in regulation, but in OT, you needed to be more agressive.

I'm not big on Foles at all, I think Luck, RG III, Tannehill,

and Jones are all ahead of him, possibly some others as well. Pretty much I’m for going for Luck, RG III, or Tannehill if neither of the first 2 are attainable, but maybe trade down a bit to take him. Also looking at some FA’s to come in and compete such as Flynn, Orton, etc. Tavaris just needs better competition than Charlie the Unicorn, and if he can beat that out, well then, more power to him, but I doubt he can.
