Unfortunate that Sandusky's folly had to taint what was otherwise a great man's great legacy

I don't want to start a big debate here

but Paterno’s lack of judgement in handling the matter when he was told about it a decade ago enabled Sandusky to continue preying on young boys for quite some time. He was a great coach and I’m sure a great man, but his unacceptable response when being told about the crimes tainted his legacy all on its own.

Paterno tainted his own legacy.

Nobody to blame but his own unreconstructed self.

Debatable

It started with Sandusky in the beginning. He was the genesis. From then on, it’s largely conjecture.

Paterno apologized for what, then?

Sorry Corax but your argument doesn’t hold. Sandusky is 100% responsible for Sandusky, JoePa 100% for JoePa. The issue landed on his desk and he punted it, there’s nothing disputed about that nor conjectural. It doesn’t define his entire life or career but it’s a giant screw-up nonetheless.

I'm not really arguing that it wasn't Paterno's fault, just pointing out that if Sandusky hadn't done what he did, the situation never comes up

like I said, Chicken vs Egg thing there, just unfortunate that it had to happen to Paterno and destroy his legacy so.

Maybe I'm not phrasing it correctly

I want to say that JoePa got caught up in this and unfortuantely didn’t make the right decisions. Culprit is Sandusky, and to me JoePa is, I dunno, ended up furthering it along despite whatever his intentions may have been.

Granted the whole 'if Sandusky hadn't done what he did' thing is sort of moot, since that's beating a dead horse

but you know, he came first, then JoePa’s actions, hence chicken/egg thing.

I can't tell if you're being ironic or not

Because you sound earnest but saying legends never die then saying ‘he dead’ is kinda funny.

SOMEone hasn't seen Sandlot enough times.
