Sidney Rice had surgery on both shoulders
We knew about the torn labrum repair surgery, but the other one is new. What a headache.

Just wants to stay balanced.
How is Vincent Jackson looking?

Eh, a lot of times these surgeries are pretty minor.
Maybe the second one is just the equivalent of getting his knee scoped. Definitely not what you want to hear considering his injury history though.
Perhaps he is just preparing for next year's
Pro Bowl season.
Dream big!

He will have to decline.
The Seahawks will be playing the following week.

Don't they sometimes do the second one just as a precaution?
Make it stronger before it tears like the other one?

Isn't that the point though?
Otherwise what I’m saying makes no sense.

It could be worse. He could be dead.
And this has been another episode of, It could be worse.

Book him early for parties, kids.
At this point, we’re talking June at the earliest.

We knew we were making a gamble when we signed him
At the time of his signing, I remember a discussion of whether a player could be injury-prone (wherein the term “SuperAIDS” was used). I think Rice’s manifest and varied injuries (hip, knee, shoulder, shoulder, concussions) may suggest he is, indeed, injury-prone.

I think generally injury prone should be used for players who have a specific problem they keep coming back to
Like weak knees, or whatever, which keeps causing injuries around that area.
Usually, when a player has completely unrelated injuries that don’t usually lead to further problems, like – say – Walter Thurmond, you have to be a bit more careful with the term. But it’s certainly possible to be prone to different kind of injuries, and Rice definitely is.
Another high-priced Seahawks WR free agent bust?

I hope not
I think the concussions are a bigger issue than the shoulder and am glad the knee and hip issues haven’t resurfaced yet. We’ll just have to see how this works out.

When everything that can possibly
go wrong on a guy starts falling apart at around age 25 then he’s injury prone. Unrelated or not, he’s all around brittle.

Probably that is a damn good heuristic.
Poop. You depress.

It reminds me of last year...
Lofa had off-season knee surgery on both knee’s.
He sure is a hell of a player
It would be nice if he can stay healthy next year. I hope he doesn’t miss too much practice time because I would like him to get as much reps as he can with whoever we decide to go forward with at QB
...so that's why PC wants Blackmon...

Why get Matt Flynn?

Wonder If
Sidney waited for the second procedure for a few weeks before getting that done?
My guess is they found this during an examination and didn’t give him the option to do so.

What's our injury situation as a team?
Can someone make a rundown of the players we IR’ed and what is the likely hood they will be ready for training camp and who won’t? I can’t remember all the injuries for the specific players and time frames for rehab. Would be interesting to see who won’t be ready for training camp.

That'd be worth an article, in fact.

From what I gather..
Moffitt and Carpenter should be out 6 to 9 months, which would put them back around May to July. Okung is on a similar time table of 6 months rehab. BMW should be back in a few months. All of these timetables are rather vague, because every injury is different.. So…
The Only One Player
That won’t be around for Mini camps is Carpenter, his injury is the only one that could stretch into camp.
That would be a cool list though.

Trade bait
Rice plus 2012 1st to the Browns for there 1st (#4 over all) use that pick for RG3.

I don't think Rice will be very attractive in trade, since the entire NFL knows he's just had surgery on two shoulders

One never knows
Surgeries are very common place in the NFL.
It really depends on the physical.

This guy is the king of surprise surgeries
Reserving judgment for now. He could play all 4 preseason games, all 16 regular season games, and all 3 playoff games next season and we’ll never even remember he had surgery to begin with.
I hate to say I told you so
But he sure seems Deion Branch
2/3 of the world is covered by water. The rest is covered by Marcus Trufant.
Damn it! Hit the wrong buttin
I disagree with the Branch comparison.
1) branch cost a 1st round pick plus cash
2) branch had the injuries after he signed with Hawks.
3) Rice was signed with the knowledge if his injuries.
4) Rice was signed as a FA.

Might not be that big of deal, could actually be a good thing.
I obviously don’t know his situation, but with shoulders, sometimes when one shoulder needs surgery they’ll check the other one to see if there’s anything that might be a problem in the future and clean it up since you’re not increasing the rehab time. It’s possible that this might actually be a good thing and prevent him from missing time in the future.
You could be correct
Something that I have always thought is that Rice was signed for trade bait down the road. I don’t have anything to prove this but it was a luxury type signing IMO. Some say Miller was a luxury but I disagree. Miller is heads and shoulders above Carlson in blocking. Which is something Seattle needed to improve.
by Redzone59 on Jan 26, 2012 9:42 PM PST via mobile up reply actions
I like your theory on miller,
but Rice was not a luxury. He was a need. and even though its a lesser need than some one say QB/DE/OLB, we still need either another elite WR or one of our current WR to “Click on.” Until Tate, Durham, Butler, Lockette have break out years, its always going to look like a need. We have physically talented recievers, but the skill isnt there yet.
Maybe luxury wasn't the correct word..
A WR was needed for sure…but Rice?
