Senior Bowl Game Thread
Watching the Senior Bowl? Wondering how to watch the Senior Bowl? Want to talk about the Senior Bowl? Bored? Do all of these apply to you? I hope so!
It starts up at 12:30 PM PT on the NFL Network for Pre-game stuff, then gametime is at 1:00. Paul Burmeister gets the call with analysts Mike Mayock and Charles Davis joining him. Rebecca Haarlow and Heath Evans provide reports from the sidelines.
I have to say - Mike Mayock and Charles Davis is one hell of a commentator team. Talk about it. The game I mean. Or Mayock and Davis too, if you like.

Lynch: "We can and we will."
When asked about the Seahawks winning the west next year. I know it means nothing but its cool to hear Lynch include himself in the team moving forward.
Cousins looks like Adam Sandler in the Longest Yard in that pic.

Who are you guys looking forward to watch
I am interested in Cousins and Upshaw

Kirk Cousins
I liked the clips of him from Michigan
Yeah, those two will be interesting.
Jeff Fuller, Jake Bequette, Jaye Howard, Dwight Jones and Sean Spence are all guys I’ll be interested to watch on the South team. LaVonte David, Vinny Curry, Cam Johnson, Marvin Jones, Kelechi Osemele, and Kendell Reyes on the North.
I hope Polk doesn't impress too much
I want him in a Seahawks jersey

damage is done, most the scouts already left.
They don’t even watch the game.
70% of space is covered by dark matter, the rest by ET.
They have lots of game tape on these guys already.
These all star games are the first chance for scouts to see how they practice, get a feel for their work ethic and stuff.
Then what's the point of claiming one player's stock rose
or one player’s dropped based on their performances in the practices? It’s stupid either way.
He just said what the point is
What scouts already know is game performance, what they get a sense of here is practice attitude and performance. Seems pretty clear-cut.

I think the game matters
I just think the scouts can see more on the game tape from the game. Every single scout that attended the Senior Bowl practices will watch this game tape. I feel comfortable saying that.

Practice habits and work ethic, sure.
But judging a player’s performance is just stupid since, you know, it’s practice.
just practice?
You don’t sound like much of a coach, coach.

It's just a data point.
They’re not ignoring game performance. They have real game tape and like Bigtrain said, they’ll probably watch tape of this game as well. And then they’re run them through a ton of drills at the combine.
The actual game tape the scouts have is probably the most important part, but they aren’t judged on any one thing.
This game is like a 11 on 11 drill.
You can’t get much from it because of the modified rules.
No blitzes, no motions on offense, no grounding, cover 1 or 3 D only.

Man, you talking about practice. Practice, man. Not a game. Not a game man, practice we talkin about practice man. Practice.
I mean, how silly is that? It’s not a game.

They get run through NFL drills by NFL coaches
to see how they react. The game has stupid all star rules like the pro bowl to keep injuries down- so it doesn’t tell you much.
It’s just an exhibition.
70% of space is covered by dark matter, the rest by ET.
also you get to see one on one competition between some of the best players
so maybe a top 5 OT prospect spends an hour or two a day competing against a few top 5 DE prospects. 80-90% of the college game tape matchups are between players who will never make the pros, 10% might be an elite player vs a player who will never make the NFL, and maybe 5% or less will actually be matchups between two future NFL players. So seeing who Upshaw does against the best and most mature college OTs in drills over the course of the week gives scouts more perspective on relative power, speed, technique, and work ethic than can necessarily be garnered from game tape – most of which pits Upshaw against some mediocre or worse OT who will never make the NFL.

Coordinator hires and what they mean for QBs
CLE hires Brad Childress — I wonder if that suggests that they’ll look hard at RGIII.
MIA hires Mike Sherman — I wonder if that suggests that the Fish are committed to getting Flynn.

Could not believe the Chilly hire.
This is the guy who Brett Favre said knew nothing about offense, right?
Also can’t believe Cam “Cam” Cameron coming back in Baltimore.

Man, if the Huskies just had some talent on D,
they coulda been good.
Or it was just Holt.
70% of space is covered by dark matter, the rest by ET.
They certainly had
some talent, seems to have been misused. You’d think Ta’amu would’ve shown up a bit more this year.
I'm not a big Ta'amu fan, but his job is to allow the guys around him to make plays.
There were no play makers on that D.
Shirley started showing up
the back half of the season, excited to see him develop. Other than that I agree, I felt like the D were just kind of there.
He was terrible in the Alamo Bowl
He stood up straight on most plays and looked completely unmotivated. He was outstanding in the Holiday Bowl the year before. I am not sure why. When motivated he seems to play great. The problem with drafting him is we don’t know how motivated he will be. It is really easy to give a ton of effort this week when you know a ton of scouts are watching your every move.
by bigtrain21 on Jan 28, 2012 1:47 PM PST via Android app up reply actions
Part of that's surely because of the Baylor offense.
UW’s defense was just gassed almost right away.
He stood up
From the entire game. It was effort to me.

You're rolling the dice at that point of the draft.
On any position.
70% of space is covered by dark matter, the rest by ET.
Sure.
But that’s the point where you’re supposed to look for depth at the lines, WR, etc. as well as ST guys. Wasting it on a guy who’s likely a career backup at best is kind of useless. I’d bet that Portis would make the roster over him anyways.
Yeah, our passing scheme sucks ass.
We need to get the best QB we can get and do what he does best.
Because we’re going to be fucking around with clowns like TJ or Sex Cannon or Cholly until the next Elway comes around. It’s fucking stupid.

he's the guy I want.
But that’s a dead give away we’ll draft somebody else.
70% of space is covered by dark matter, the rest by ET.
Except he's kind of not.
He doesn’t have the athleticism to rollout which is a pretty big requirement of the WCO. He doesn’t really fit any system.
Yeah I think I'm turning this off
Why this game is turning into such a phenomenon is beyond me. Looking forward to reading any observations you guys have though.

The 2 North Carolina guys, Coples and Brown have looked pretty good on D.
I would not be too surprised to see the Hawks go after either of these guys. Brown seems like the ultra fast LB that pete would love
Ideally, yes.
Brown might be our back-up plan though. I’m high on him.

seems like Coples has made a lot more plays than Upshaw so far
i read Rob’s post earlier, it was very convincing. Coples has looked good today though
Coples is alright
Haven’t looked at him fully though.

Neither was Carpenter
worth the 25th overall pick
I'd be happy with Seahawks getting 1.Upshaw 2.Lamar Miller or Brock Osweiler 3.Sean Spence 4. Chris Polk or Marcus Forston
These receivers are ten kinds of suck on both teams.

I like the look of Cousins
Demeanor, mechanics, etc (honestly that’s the only stuff this game seems useful for, these guys are seniors and therefore should have like….a lot…..of tape floating around. That isn’t from totally vanilla schemes.

From Mike Mayock to Matt Millen.
That’s like reading some of Jeff Sullivan/Rob Neyer/Dave Cameron’s analysis and then some of Bill Bavasi’s
Martin again. Turns nothing into something.

So far he's been good on kick returns, good pass blocking, good running, and good
at staying with plays downfield. Not a bad day for him. He’s been well thought of in practice all week too. Definitely showing something out there.

Martin
Is he fast?
I'd be happy with Seahawks getting 1.Upshaw 2.Lamar Miller or Brock Osweiler 3.Sean Spence 4. Chris Polk or Marcus Forston
Yeah, fast but not elite fast.
But he’s an interesting guy, especially considering his experience in that Boise St offense.
Foles looking all kinds of craptacular.

Indeed. The LT did his job. The QB held the ball and then just went back, back, back.
Either good coverage downfield or lousy vision by the QB, but the o-line did it’s job reasonably well there.

Moore has been much better as the game has gone on. Still might not ever be a starter QB
But I think in the right system, a hell of a backup option.
