Seahawks suffer most puzzling loss of season, 28-24 at Detroit | Seahawks | The Seattle Times
Eighty yards. That's what Seattle's defense gave up on a drive that started out as a gut check for Detroit and turned into the uppercut that floored the Seahawks in a 28-24 loss at Ford Field. Detroit ran 16 plays — all but one of them passes — during a drive that culminated with Lions receiver Titus Young diving for a 1-yard touchdown catch on third down with 20 seconds left.
Week 9: Georgia defense filled with talent " Seahawks Draft Blog
Jarvis Jones missed a couple of games for Georgia recently but his return couldn’t have been any more timely. Jones recorded 13 tackles, three sacks, two forced fumbles and two separate fumble recoveries in a performance which confirms his position as the top prospect in the country. A supreme athlete, Jones was a terror off the edge all day. One criticism has been his lack of big games against ranked opponents, but he dominated the Gators for the second year running. In two games against Florida, Jones has seven sacks. They’ll be glad to see the back of him.
Wrap-up: Patriots 45, Rams 7 - NFC West Blog - ESPN
What it means: The Rams fell to 3-5 with their third consecutive defeat. Their shortcomings, some compounded by injuries, have caught up to them against superior opponents. The bye week comes at a good time for St. Louis. The team should welcome back its top receiver, Danny Amendola. Other injured players, including left tackle Rodger Saffold and center Scott Wells, should also be closer to returning.
Wrap-up: Lions 28, Seahawks 24 - NFC West Blog - ESPN
What it means: The Seahawks fell to 4-4 with their second consecutive road defeat after their defense faltered late in the game. Seattle got what it needed in the fourth quarter from rookie quarterback Russell Wilson, who led a 12-play, 87-yard drive for the go-ahead touchdown. That was a positive and something the Seahawks can build upon. However, letting this game get away puts pressure on Seattle to win its five remaining home games to finish with a winning record.
Braylon Edwards and state of Seattle at WR - NFC West Blog - ESPN
The Seattle Seahawks have upgraded much of their roster over the past three seasons. Wide receiver is a position still needing some attention. That was the takeaway Sunday when the Seahawks scratched veteran Braylon Edwards from the lineup and it mattered. Edwards, named inactive with a swollen knee, had been getting additional reps in recent weeks. He even caught a touchdown pass against New England two weeks ago. But durability has been an issue for him over the past two seasons.

PLAYER OF THE GAME Matthew Stafford. The Lions’ quarterback threw, and threw, and then threw some more. Stafford didn’t stop until he had passed his team to victory with a 1-yard pass to Titus Young with 20 seconds left in the game. It was Stafford’s 49th pass of the afternoon, and 34th completion. Not to mention his third TD pass. Oh, and he also ran for a touchdown to give the Lions a 21-17 lead with 11½ minutes remaining. But after Russell Wilson led a 12-play, 87-yard drive that ended with his 16-yard TD pass to tight end Zach Miller that gave the Seahawks a 24-21 lead with 5½ minutes left, Stafford didn’t blink. He just kept throwing on the 16-play, 80-yard drive that ended with his game-winner.
Richard Sherman says Calvin Johnson 'wasn't a factor' - Blog - MyNorthwest.com
Richard Sherman was successful in his attempt to contain Calvin Johnson. But as the Seahawks' brash cornerback noted after Seattle's 28-24 loss to the Lions on Sunday, Detroit's other receivers made the plays instead. "He wasn't a factor. He hasn't been much of a factor for them this season," Sherman told Jen Mueller. "But the rest of their receivers stepped up, their running backs stepped up and they did a great job."
A nod of appreciation for Lions QB Matthew Stafford | Seahawks Blog | The Seattle Times
"He did throw it pretty quick," Seahawks defensive end Chris Clemons said. "I think they went to the same situation where Green Bay did in the second half on us, quick throws. Getting the ball out of his hand, not letting him hold onto the ball. We've got to get our hands up to get those balls down. Make him hold the ball or at least pump it so we get a chance to get back there to him."

Thomas on loss: "This should have been a blow out." | Seahawks Insider
According to Seahawks safety Earl Thomas, the defense shoulders the lion’s share of the blame for Seattle’s 28-24 loss at Detroit. "Really and truly this should have been a blow out," Thomas said. "When you let teams hang around, that’s what happens."
Detroit Lions Edge Seattle Seahawks 28-24 - 12th Man Rising - A Seattle Seahawks Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and more.
This game might be the most frustrating of the Seahawks 4 losses this season. The offense played well, and did enough to win this game. The defense, the strength of this team, just couldn’t make a play in the entire game. Giving up 4 TDs to a team like the Lions is completely unacceptable. This entire game felt like the Seahawks were just 1 defensive play away from coming away with a win and couldn’t get it.

Titus Young catches two TDs as Detroit Lions knock off Seattle Seahawks - NFL.com
Young caught a go-ahead TD midway through the second quarter and finished with nine receptions and 100 yards receiving - both career highs - in a breakout performance that didn't surprise Detroit coach Jim Schwartz. "I wasn't worried about Titus," Schwartz said. "Titus has never lacked for self-confidence."
NFP Sunday Blitz | National Football Post
Sidney Rice is the Seahawks’ most talented receiver, but there is a reason he has been overlooked in the passing game. The oft-injured Rice didn’t have a chance to work with new quarterback Russell Wilson in the offseason because he was rehabbing from shoulder surgeries, and he missed a good portion of camp and the preseason. As a result, Wilson and Rice were not clicking very well on the field. Their chemistry has improved, but it still has a ways to go. While Rice was working his way back into the offense, Golden Tate became the team’s primary vertical threat. But it’s likely the Seahawks coaches will push Rice back to the forefront now. It’s obvious they need his big play potential.

FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: Innovative Statistics, Intelligent Analysis | Under Pressure: Blitz Design Clinic
The game ended up being a 43-13 blowout, but well before Texans-Ravens got out of hand, the Texans defense got its first points of the game on a well-designed blitz. Thanks to the talent of guys like J.J. Watt, Antonio Smith and Connor Barwin, Wade Phillips’ defense doesn’t always need to blitz to generate pressure. But when they do send the house, good things often happen.
League doesn’t rule out taking draft picks from repeat injury report offenders | ProFootballTalk
With thee teams being fined $20,000 each in recent weeks for failing to disclose injuries in compliance with league rules, the penalty for the first offense isn't much more than, given the value of NFL franchises, a parking ticket. If teams become repeat offenders, however, the price will go up.
