I was recently thinking about the Seahawks season, and some of the memorable plays. Of course Golden Tate's catch in week 3 came to mind. And then, another Seattle/Green Bay game came to mind, and I saw parallels between the two games (ok - maybe not parallels, but at least a way I could make a connection - one that I hadn't seen posted amid all the hoopla surrounding the play).
Buckle up as we step into the time machine. I hope you've packed your winter clothes because we are going to Green Bay, Wisconsin on January 4, 2003. The time is about 4:10 pm eastern and it's 20F outside, perhaps a flurry or two in the air. We arrive just in time to see that our Seahawks and the Packers are tied at 27 going into overtime, and the Captains are walking to the center of the field for the toss of the coin.
The Ref tosses it.. We win! We'll get the ball firs.... OMG - Matt Hasslebeck did not just say that out loud? Thats right... you know it - "We want the ball, and we're gonna score" - words that now live in football infamy... Karma must have been in the stands that day, and was wearing some cheese on her head....
I won't go into what happened next.. we all know how it turned out...
Now - back to Sept. 24, 2012... Green Bay is in Seattle - it's almost midnight Eastern Time. Green Bay has a 12-7 lead with 8 seconds to play, but Seattle has the ball on the Green Bay 24 yard line. Russell Wilson, making his third career start, takes the snap... rolls, looks, rolls back the other way...
*And meanwhile, Matt Hasslebeck must have been watching from somewhere, and Golden Tate summoned the thoughts of Hass....*
Call it Karma, luck, a fluke, or whatever you like... but 9 years after the fact, Seattle did get the ball, and according to the Ref's, they did score...
