Well no, actually, these are all of Brandon's original thoughts. I was planning on doing a little write-up on my take, but once I read this article, I knew all I could add would just be redundant. To anyone following me on Twitter (@mattlock3), it would come as no secret that I wasn't desperate for the Hawks to re-sign Bryant, unless it was on the cheap. He's not a 4-3 DE and shouldn't be compared to them. He's a 3-4 DE, and a one-dimensional one at that. As far as I can tell, Houston's Antonio Smith was the highest paid 3-4 DE this past season, making $6.5 million. If you think Red is one of the best 3-4 DEs in the league, then pay him like it. If not, well, does a $7m/year contract fit? Bryant is valuable as an emotional leader of the defense, and Pete and John want to set a precedent for paying their own guys, so I can understand this expense, though I probably wouldn't have made the same deal. Go give Brandon's piece and read and let him know what you think.
