After a painful first season with the Seahawks, which included two concussions and led to him having surgery on both shoulders, Sidney Rice has moved into the fast lane on his road to recovery.

We can expect a little dead time now, but it’s only five weeks until camp starts, and seven weeks until the first preseason game. A great deal remains to be done by the start of the season. You know that Schneider and Carroll consider cut dates around the league as another free-agency period, so there may be some roster tweaking before the first game.

The Seattle Seahawks maneuvered themselves in the draft nicely by trading back with both the Jets and Eagles in order to accumulate more picks. By the time the draft weekend was over, Seattle had selected 10 players in a quantity based effort to improve the state of the franchise. First round pick Bruce Irvin raised some serious eyebrows on draft day and was widely viewed as the biggest question mark of the first round. I do agree that they reached on Irvin, but he was not the worst pick in the first round as far as I’m concerned.

6. Brandon Browner, CB, Seattle Seahawks (2011) -- Last time anybody in the NFL saw Browner before 2011, he was a Denver Broncos undrafted guy in 2005. Before he could even get started, a fractured forearm cost Browner the 2005 season and a 2006 roster spot. He spent five years in the CFL before Pete Carroll and John Schneider took a shot on him. Browner rewarded the Seahawks with an impressive and altogether unlikely season. Of the ten players on our list, only Browner and Warren Moon started all 16 games in their first seasons. Browner picked off six passes, returned two interceptions for touchdowns, and helped his first official NFL team establish the man coverage concepts it didn't have the personnel to do before he arrived.

Before we even mention any of the players coming and going, it has to be mentioned that the Seahawks were able to retain Marshawn Lynch, Red Bryant and Michael Robinson. All 3 were vital contributors in 2011, and losing them would have been a disaster for the Seahawks. The fact that all 3 are returning is a huge victory for the Seahawks.
