UPDATE: The Browns have chosen Josh Gordon with a 2nd round pick. They had the 2nd pick of each round after the lottery order was announced, behind only the Bills.
The 2012 NFL Supplemental Draft is set to get going at 10am PST so I figured I would throw up an open thread in case you guys are watching the action. We've all seen the scouting reports on Baylor WR Josh Gordon and I'd say overall he's an extremely intriguing prospect, and the main player to watch today. However, the Seahawks were also one of two teams, along with the New Orleans Saints, to show up to Carson-Newman LB Larry Lumpkin's pro day on Wednesday, so keep your eye on that name today as well.
Rob Rang reports that "according to a league source, Carson Newman inside linebacker Larry Lumpkin measured in at 6-0 and 241 pounds Wednesday. He ran the 40-yard dash twice for a time that was characterized by the source as "mid 4.7s" and performed well in the bench press, lifting the bar 27 times. Lumpkin demonstrated this intriguing blend of size, speed and explosiveness for the Eagles last season, earning First Team All-South Atlantic honors with 94 tackles, including 10.5 for loss."
Tony Pauline of SportsIllustrated also provided a scouting report on Lumpkin, listing his positives as a "tough, aggressive run defender who chases hard to get involved in the action. Quickly diagnoses plays, shows a terrific head for the ball and has an explosive nature to his game. Flows well laterally and easily gets outside the box in pursuit of plays. Slips past blocks and attacks ball handlers. Squares and wraps up at the point of attack. Flashes skill in coverage and displays the ability to stay downfield with running backs, then make plays when the ball's in the air." As for the negatives, Lumpkin "lacks classic inside/middle linebacker size and will struggle stacking against the run or defeating blocks at the next level."
