Utter elation. Does TRUE ecstasy have such a dirty feeling afterward? I feel like a St**lers fan today and I don’t like it! My elation hearing the final play over the radio driving home slowly turned to degradation as I actually observed the play unfold when I saw the replay ad nauseam. My excited peppering of my wife over the phone with, “Did you see it?! Did you?!!” would not wane with her calmly stating that, “Even people who saw it and support the Seahawks didn’t think it was a catch…” I couldn’t believe it. I didn’t want this feeling of impossible satisfaction like winning the lotto on my last buck to diminish.
I won’t refute the facts; that’s not the point. He didn’t have it. Those who DO contest it, this is clearly not for you. There is no turning blind fandom, even if it does fly in the face of integrity. Simply put, what if the shoe were on the other foot? St**lers fan: “Hey a win is a win right? It don’t matter how you done it! Just so long as you get’er done!” Complete filth. So if you become a millionaire by fleecing others it’s alright, because you’re living your dream in spite of taking their dreams from them?
Even better, let’s take football completely out of this. And I’ll take it to the extreme here just to make a point. What if your parents were murdered? All the evidence pointed to them being murdered, and heck they even had the culprit on video from multiple angles. The thug goes before a judge, and is ruled innocent. Does it make him any less of a murderer of your parents just because he wasn’t caught? So this guy goes free and clear. Everywhere he goes he’ll be detested (at least by those who have any inkling of what honor is), and now he gloats about it being free, winning when he had no right? Remind anyone of a certain Super Bowl winning team even after referees came out years later and said they blew several pivotal calls that would have undoubtedly turned the outcome of the game in the other’s favor? Do I want to be THAT!? That is not the Seahawk way. That is not how a true winner stands, on the grounds of a technicality!
One more point, if none of this has hit home. Let’s take it back to football, but now to your kids – our future. What do you want to teach them? How do you want them to live? In moral dissolution to the decay they have helped to foster, or standing justified knowing they need not defend themselves for the truth they’ve lived will champion their character! If your own child had stepped out of bounds (they knew they did, and everyone else knew they did aside from the refs) before the winning touchdown of a pop warner game… what would you do? What is worth teaching your very own unsullied flesh and blood that breaking the rules is okay if you don’t get caught? A win…really? At the sake of losing their innocence, you’d allow them to look the other way in the face of what they know is right? Deplorable.
For those who say, “Hey, this is a grown man’s game! This ain’t no kiddy league we’re talk’n ‘bout!” I say this, all the more reason to play it right and do what’s right. Because who do you think is looking at this game, huh? Who emulates and wants to be like those heroes they see on the gridiron? If there were a way to give back a win, this would be it. And anyone who has any worth knows we got away with one, and those same people should know it’s not right. Don’t be dirty Stealer, it’s not the Seahawk way.
