NFL Free Agency 2013: Tarvaris Jackson signs with Buffalo, Dwight Freeney hits the open market

Andrew Weber-US PRESSWIRE

Just wanted to make a quick note here that former Seahawks' quarterback Tarvaris Jackson has signed on in Buffalo for another season, and will compete with Ryan Fitzpatrick and any incoming quarterback through the Draft for the starting job with the Bills.

Per head coach Doug Marrone:

"I spoke with Ryan and Tarvaris and told them we will have an open competition at the quarterback position - similar to what we will do at all positions on our team heading into our offseason work. I believe that our players will embrace this challenge. We are looking forward to working with our players as we prepare for the 2013 season."

Competition, competition, competition. The only reason it's noteworthy at all is that this eliminates most doubt that Tarvaris would somehow end up back in Seattle to back up Russell Wilson next season, an idea that has been making the rounds of late with the thought that Matt Flynn will be traded.

Elsewhere, free agent DE Dwight Freeney officially received word from the Colts that he will not be re-signed in Indianapolis this season (they run a 3-4, which he is not ideally suited for), meaning he'll now hit the open market with a gusto. Freeney is one of several free agent defensive ends that might be of interest to the Seahawks, considering Chris Clemons may not be ready for the beginning of the 2013 season. A one- or two-year deal at a reasonable rate would be an ideal situation for the Seahawks, and they'd get the 32-year old probable future Hall of Famer, who, I'd guess, is probably looking to catch on with a contender. Enter John Schneider stage left.

I'll have a post together soon that highlights the rest of the league's free agents that might be of interest to the Seahawks, but these are the two noteworthy tidbits from today.
