Former Seahawks WR Deon Butler has signed a free agent contract with the San Diego Chargers. Butler, a third round pick by the Hawks in 2009, will get a chance to rebound with Phillip Rivers and the Chargers downfield passing attack.
Butler had his best season in 2010, catching 36 passes for 385 yards and four touchdowns, but broke his leg scoring that final TD and his return has been slow-going. He appeared in one game for the Hawks last year and only five in 2011 after starting on the PUP list, and evidently the Hawks didn't try too hard to reach a new agreement with the speedy wideout.
He caught 57 passes for 611 yards and 4 TDs in his time with the Hawks.
Butler joins a fairly deep Charger wide receiver corps, and will have to compete against Malcom Floyd, Danario Alexander (RFA), Vincent Brown, Robert Meachem, Eddie Royal, Mike Willie and Richard Goodman for a spot on the roster.
