Legion of Boom

I went to the Raiders preseason game and one thing that stood out to me was during the player introductions the entire collection of DBs took the field together as the the Legion of Boom. At the time I thought it was a nice gesture to include the back ups and give them a nice ovation in front of the home crowd. Then I noticed some online statements from Earl and Sherman stating that the Legion of Boom was everybody in the DB room. How prophetic that turned out to be. While Thomas and Sherman continue to lead the world in their respective positions, and Kam the Death-backer continues to legally hit people so hard it draws a flag (but no fine), Maxwell and Lane have been playing tremendous football.

Kam, Browner, Sherm and ET are the best secondary in the NFL, so I see why the LOB nickname stuck even though it is a little corny. The turnovers and hits have continued to come with Maxwell and Lane in the line up. It just goes to show that the players know what they are talking about when they talk up the play of guys we don't get to see much. I have always been a huge Browner fan and advocate, that guy is everything I love about the legion of boom. I am a little surprised at how happy I am with the play of both of his replacements (Thurmond has impressed too). I hope Browner wins his appeal and gets healthy so he can play with the team. I hope Thurmond learns his lesson and we re-sign him for a discount, but I really hope both of them have to earn their snaps on the practice field. Maxwell and Lane have both earned the right to compete for starting roles and those starts shouldn't be handed back without some real competition.

One last thought, I was thinking of a nickname for the front 7 and "Magnificent Seven" came to mind, but with so much depth and rotation on the D line and the backup LBs playing great it seems wrong. We need something better.
