For many it's simply the rude social media ramblings from those in the Bay Area once the niners started winning again that has sparked outrage from our fanbase, it has been inflamed by the Carroll and Harbaugh rivalry, the Richard Sherman trash talking, the beat downs we gave them at home and near losses we had before that. Neither side has been willing to relent in their hatred.
Maybe for good reason, it makes good television and ratings, gets us fired up for games and gives us something to look for on just about every article on any sports site or social media page. While I certainly share the hatred my fellow Seahawks fans have towards them for these same reasons, the roots of my disdain for the Niners goes alot further back.
I was born a Seahawk fan, meaning before I understood football I rooted for the local team that my family rooted for, many people can attest to this as its how we were brought up. There was a Quarterback who got alot of attention back then who I also enjoyed too. His name was Joe Montana. Believe it or not I enjoyed watching him play for the Niners and seeing the greatness he exhibited on the field. While the Seahawks were my favorite team, Joe Montana was my favorite Quarterback. I got a few years older and in what seemed like blasphemy the Niners replaced Joe with this young, mobile upstart named Steve Young, and before Young had accomplished anything he was dubbed the next Montana. I was devastated. My understanding of football wphad grown enough to know that Young's success was heavily dependent on the team around him like Rice, yet he was being credited as an Elite QB. Sounds alot like a a certain Niners QB last year. At any rate I promptly refused to watch the niners any longer. Unfortunately my step father, who was a huuuuuge Niners fan, and an asshole (go figure) insisted. He hated the Cowboys as they were a big Rival of the Niners at that time. Out of spite I started cheering for the boys just to piss him off, after watching the cowboys during the start of their golden age I became actually enamoured with them, Aikman, Emitt, Irvin, the huge line they had. They were just fun to watch. The more I watched them the more my dislike for the niners grew. The Internet didn't exist in the form it does today back then. But the niners fans were just as insufferable then make no mistake. Around that timei met Cortez Kennedy and went to my first Seahawks game at the Kingdome, it was against.... You guessed it... The Niners. It was for all Intense purposes a meaningless game as the Niners were playoff bound and the Seahawks weren't but the Hawks clobbered them and I remember it being soo loud and exciting I never undertood what being a hawks fan meant until that moment.
I was and have been a fan of two teams since, the hawks and cowboys. When the Seahawks moved into the NFC West I was thrilled because I knew we would be able to beat up on those assholes twice a year. I was delighted to see the downturn of the Niners for most of the 2000-2010 decade while the Seahawks won multiple division titles and had several playoff berths. As for the Cowboys, Tony Romo and Jerry Jones make them a very hard team to like but I will always pull for them. When they play the Seahawks I die a little inside as its a lose lose for me win win if I was more optimistic.
Now the Niners are good again and Their coach and Quarterback and many of their players are about as classless as I've ever seen a team. I'd like to tell you that their fans are worse than ever but they aren't, maybe the physical violence at games is worse due to the degeneration and crime of this generation. But their fanbase is the same holier than thou art asshats that they have always been. They troll our articles relentlessly. I can't go to any site outside of field gulls and read a seahawks article without reading seadderal, seacock, 5 rings, she hawks, sea chicken, cheat hawks, and so on. Even in the ask niners post they come and troll us on our own site. I do occassionally read niners nation more for enemy intel than anything but I will never be a member there and have no desire to post. Right now there are multiple troll posts put up on their site, fully endorsed by their mods, the ask field gulls post is filled with assholes posting anti Seahawk crap.
There is a post about Seattle being the worst sports city, a post downplaying the rivaly saying we aren't important enough to be rivals due to our lack of championships and an actual post just for trolling.... They also have the audacity to turn around and say we are the worst fans...
Yes there are insufferable Seahawk fans too, and yes there are reasonable Niners fans, the guys who posted the ask niners thread has been more than polite. It just should come as no surprise to anyone why they are detestable. I make no apologies for how I feel, I hope the Seahawks lay a beating on them so profound that the word blowout will be forevermore be renamed getting hawked, that the stadium destroys itself in shame after its over, that grown men in niners gear weep like infants infront of their families and spouses and are never thought of the same way again. May the Seahawks best them so badly that generations from now the Santa Clara Niners fans walk past the Go Hawks brick in their stadium and shudder in remembrance of the final time the Seahawks played at Candlestick.
