According to WalterFootball.com it looks like the Seahawks are heavily interested in Datone Jones.
Now just scroll down on that page and you will see it has the Seahawks meeting with Jones at the Senior Bowl and at the Combine. It is the only prospect that Walter has that the Seahawks have met with twice. He would probably make sense as the Seahawk's first pick because I doubt Jones makes it to the end of Round 2. We all know by now that when Pete Carroll wants a certain player he is not afraid to take him several rounds early or ahead of other players that are rated higher on Mel Kiper's board. I don't see it as being much of a reach if at all though due to this year's draft class.
Datone Jones combine was pretty awesome as well. It was overshadowed by players like Ziggy Ansah and Margus Hunt who had freak combines, but a very solid combine that definitely improved his stock.
Datone Jones DE UCLA
40 time: 4.80
10-Yd split: 1.63
Bench Press: 29
The 10-yard split time stands out to me. His time is easily comparable to the lighter Defensive ends and 3-4 outside linebackers that worked out as defensive ends. Dion Jordon for example ran a 1.57. Datone Jones has nearly 40 pounds to him but still his time is very comparable. Jones also beat another top prospect in Bjoern Werner. Werner ran a 1.66 but Jones who is also 20 pounds heavier still beat him. His explosiveness to go along with his strength and size make him seem like someone Pete Carroll would target in the draft.
How would you guys feel if they took Datone Jones with their first rounds pick? Leave some comments or vote in the poll and let me know. Sorry in advance for any spelling or grammar mistakes. Thanks for reading!
