It's always nice to keep the cake and eat it.
By the end of the year we’ll need to let some very valuable veterans leave the team because we need to free their cap numbers.
Some of those guys are savvy and valuable backups just in case something goes very wrong with the starters next year.
A good example is McQ. He is a very good replacement for almost all of the Oline positions. He is smart, he knows the players and the system but we can’t keep his 3M cap hit.
He is not a young talent and will probably not get a lot of interest as a FA.
So, why not cut McQ the player and hire McQ the assistant Oline coach?
He stays with the team, trains and keeps in football shape, helps Tom with the young talent and if something bad happens, too many injuries etc. and we need a savvy vet to step in and hold the gates – We fire McQ the coach and hire McQ the player?
Maybe do the same with Rob?
What do you think?
