I am a fan of the Seahawks and devour most articles about them. Coffee and Cigarettes is my favorite section of this site, but I also enjoy many of the articles written in-house. Yet, I noticed from the first time I visited this site that criticism was unwanted, and cheerleading was encouraged. That was about two years ago. Since then the writing has gone from very good to so-so to downright annoyingly twisted. Since honest critcism is discouraged and or censored, the writers seem to get more and more bizarre as time goes on, and often are patted on the back and told what wonderful writing they are doing, and that only encourages them to get even more bizarre. Often, as a story unfolds with vast quantities of personal annecdotes unrelated to football in any sensible way, I give up on the story and skip to the comments section to see how many others are cheering for more, and congratulating the writer for another fine article. Invariably, there is always someone, and usually many who will do so. Yet I have NEVER seen anyone say, "Jeez, Kenneth, you got a little carried away with yourself on that article..." - though the thought might have occurred to me repeatedly throughout the article. This lovefest seems to be encouraging bizarre writing by all but a few of the regular writers and many of the irregular ones, too. It occurs to be just one more argument against any kind of censorship. I have watched numerous sites throughout my internet travels where one person "owns" a site, and gradually the absolute power corrupts absolutely the good sense of what, often, started out as a fine site. How many others feel as I do but are too fearful of being banned from the most comprehensive and analytical Seahawks site? Yes, there is plenty of football knowledge being shared here. Yes, every one of the writers is talented and informative. But they are not getting honest feedback from the readers. Just the love.
