I'm not really sure where to post this, but it's been bugging me so I figured this may be the most logical place to voice by concern.
Remember when we didn't cuss in our comments other than during games? I do. It felt great to be part of a community of (mostly) level headed adults. I remember being genuinely proud of our discussion threads, so much great material not just in the articles themselves, but in the comments sections as well! I remember so clearly, because all this was just a year ago.
I know that there is still plenty of great information in both the articles on FG (many mahalos to Danny, Kenneth, Mr. Hsu, etc), and great info in the comments sections too. But it's like sifting through an ESPN message board to find them nowadays. Ok, not THAT bad, but the point still stands. Something has shifted in the culture here on FG. I'd assume it's because of a large influx of newer fans, eager to show their fandom to a now great roster and unaware of the previous calm and respectful level of discourse that once reigned here.
I remember leaving Seahawks Addicts (remember that site?) because it had fallen into name-calling and the personal attacks.
Maybe I'm just nuts. It feels more hostile now though, and I am less apt to take place in conversations on FG now because they feel less educated and more...middle school. Maybe the site rules changed and I didn't notice. Maybe no one reads this and that is actually OK by me, I just wanted to share how one fan of the site and of the Hawks feels about a great community forum slipping into an ESPN message board.
You stay classy, Seattle.
