Chip Kelly claimed time of possession was not important for winning football games. I was curious how true this was I found average time of possession stats for the 2012 season and used the win totals for the teams and used the correlation function in excel.
The result is 0.483
Of course this could be due to winning teams running the ball just to eat the clock, or teams losing by a lot trying to conserve clock time to mount a comeback. Fun experiment anyway, hopefully I did it correctly!
