Based on the mic'ed up video from NFL Films, despite Crabtree trying to pick a fight with Sherman at a charity event over the summer, Sherman complimented him and the Niners after the pick and said "hell of a game, hell of a game". Crabtree's response was to physically assault Sherman. First, the NFL should have flagged Crabtree from the open handed punch to Sherman's face. In "good sportsman" etiquette, when someone compliments you on a good game, the proper response isn't to punch him in the face. Second, after a punch to the face, when you were trying to compliment them on a good game, anger is a normal reaction. Giving the choke sign and then calling the person who punched you a mediocre receiver is more than understandable in light of the circumstances. Many people would and have in the past physically retaliated in kind, especially considering that Crabtree and the Niners threw the first punch (second if you include the sideline assault on Lane earlier in the game that prevented him from being in a position to recover the fumble, but I digress). I for one would like to commend Sherman on his restraint and his sportsmanship. Crabtree is a POS, and the NFL Films backs that up.
