Sorry, I know this is what the FanShots section is made for, but since I've just started seeing people making this comp for the first time recently, and there's no obvious consensus even among those of us who appreciate both of them with the burning heat of a thousand supernovas, I wanted to provide a casual discussion forum that's a little more noticeable.
Up until Sunday night, Kenny Easley was my favorite Seahawk of all time. My whole life, he's the first Seahawk I remember being excited to see play from a very young age, and the one who made me most proud to follow the team regardless of what their final season record was. He played with a ferocity and intelligence that made him frequently the most feared guy on the field. I remember reading recently that the Niners wanted him badly (he was nearby playing lights out at UCLA) and we just drafted him first with our lower pick (Rd 1/Pick 4).
That's right...somewhere I read recently that a person familiar with the Niners' draft in '81 said the team would've taken Kenny Easley at #8 overall, and if so, Ronnie Lott would never have been a 49er. Amazing thought.
Kenny Easley was my all-time favorite Seahawk right up until Richard Sherman jumped into the air, and with a circus-like reverse body twist, created a poetry-in-motion-level turnover out of what would've otherwise been a game-winning, and Super Bowl-clinching, catch and throw from Colin Kaepernick to Michael Crabtree. Richard Sherman's now my favorite person in the world (pls don't tell my wife), so I'll leave that topic with a sensible chuckle and go back to the Safeties at hand.
I know Kam was pretty damn good last season, but I feel like he's taken the next step this season, and in convincing fashion. He now looks like a top 3 player at his position, to me, and I'd argue he's the best SS in the league right now. The extension the Hawks gave him last season was a master stroke of pure genius, in retrospect. I think it would have been a major mistake to let Kam get to free agency, and I'm glad they didn't.
So, how do you guys think Kam stacks up against the other safeties in the league, especially on his side, and how do you take Lott's comments featured in the TNT article?
As good as the articles are at FG, I read the comments just as eagerly...we have some really, really smart, really passionate fans, and I love asking questions like these of you/them.
