GARY Week 7 Update

So, finally here we are again for another week of GARY. Once again a spectacularly frustrating week in my house which of course started (but definitely didn't end) with the Seahawks-Rams game. That last fumble call had me so upset I tweaked my knee somehow. Still, I only missed one day of practice so I should be good to go to watch the game this weekend. I was starting to do better after having finally watched Denver blow out San Francisco until I came on the site to write about GARY and saw the article on penalty disparity. Without trying to introduce or support conspiracy theories (I was screaming around my house about the NFL being fixed after the Hawks' game...I don't know what I actually believe), I have to agree with one comment that I can never remember being so upset about the way games were called for multiple weeks. At least the Hawks are finally starting to look a bit like themselves and if they play like they did in the second half last week, it's going to take even crazier calls to keep them from winning.

So, after another week with a cathartic opening paragraph, on to our weekly edition of As The Browns Turn. Apparently the Browns were consumed with Danny's article comparing them to the Hawks as they went to Jacksonville and stunk up the joint. Gus Bradley's boys finally started playing some defense and the Browns didn't get the memo that to mimic the Hawks they had to play well in the second half. Blake Bortles threw three interceptions, but (almost?) everyone's favorite AFC team wasn't fazed and finally got off the proverbial schneid. The Browns stay mired in mediocrity...which is still a huge improvement for them. To the GARY divisional standings. Primers here and here for those of you who don't know GARY and his pal GP yet.

Only a few changes in the divisional races this week as the early season wide variances are minimized. Still almost all of the changes happen at the top. In the AFC, Cincinnati's loss at Indy drops them below Baltimore and San Diego's loss at home to the Chiefs drops them below the Broncos. They are joined as division leaders by surging New England and Indianapolis. In the NFC, in spite of Atlanta's loss, they move above New Orleans because the Saints lost in conference while in the East, Dallas moves to the top based on Philly's bye week. The Boys are joined by Detroit, Carolina, and Arizona as division leaders. In spite of the Cardinals injuries, they continually to sit atop the West. A regression to the mean is possibly coming? Against the Raiders, Palmer threw the first (first?!) interception by an Arizona QB this season. The conference standings by GARY.

The Colts, Broncos, Patriots, and Ravens are joined in our GARY playoffs by the Chargers and surprisingly the Chiefs. Kansas City shoots from tied to 9th all the way to 6th to grab the last spot. San Diego drops 3 spots and the Bengals drop 2. The other big mover is the Texans down 3 spots to 10th. In the NFC, the Cowboys jump from 5th to 1st thanks to their divisional home win. After years of pathetic play, Dallas looks good. As such, the Cowboys can no longer be looked at with amusement and once again move to the must-hate list. Fellow division champs Arizona, Detroit, and Carolina are joined by the Packers and Eagles. A very tight ranking at the top of the NFC as the top 5 teams are only separated by one GARY. Meanwhile, the Seahawks only drop one spot to 9th. Finally, the conference standings by GP.

In the AFC, the Bengals move above the Chiefs to take the last playoff spot. While the Colts lead the AFC in both GARY and GP (tied with Denver), the Broncos still are in the slightly better position as they have only lost 1 potential GARY all season, leaving them 3 points better than the Colts in that category. No real changes in the NFC from GARY to GP, but the Seahawks lose their GP playoff spot and drop 2 spots from last week's 6th. Another big week for the Hawks as they have the potential to earn 2 GARY and move back into the black (Yes, I can call it that even though I didn't format negative numbers to be red.) with a win at Carolina. See you next week.
