This is sort of an odd topic but I feel it needs to be discussed. I have never been all that happy with the banners at the Clink (both their style and the sheer number of them) but now that the team has the ultimate banner its time to make some changes.
I am of the opinion that instead of the 8 division championship seasons each getting an individual banner they should create 1 large banner hung from the rafters on the south end of the stadium (same side as current banner but moved to above south endzone), this larger banner should be titled 'Playoff Appearances and Division Titles" and should honor all of the playoff teams in Seattle history. Each logo should be placed under the title and the AFC logo along with the year (wildcard in white/division title in Red) would be listed followed by NFC logo along with year (wildcard in white/division title in Blue) all placed on a single banner. This honors all of Seattle's 13 playoff teams in 1 place.
At the 50 yard line individual banners for 2005 and 2013 would still be hung (2005 needs to be re-designed with a blue background, the NFC championship logo, and the Super Bowl 40 logo), the 2013 Super Bowl banner should be on a white background with the Super Bowl 48 logo centered with 2013 Super Bowl Champions above and the Seahawks logo below. No NFC Championship banner is needed for 2013 since that is implied with the Super Bowl banner.
I believe this creates a more sustainable banner alignment and one that properly highlights the greater accomplishments that are reaching/winning the Super Bowl while also honoring the 5 wildcard teams Seattle has seen.
The Sounders banners would be moved to the opposite end zone.
Retired jerseys remain where they are now.
Just a thought.....
