NFL Draft 2014 Results: Seahawks select SS Eric Pinkins in sixth round

Jake Roth-US PRESSWIRE

The L.O.B. gets a new pledge.

The Seahawks selected San Diego State strong safety Eric Pinkins with their second sixth round pick, No. 208 overall. Pinkins, 6'2, 230, is a hard-hitting safety with insane athletic measureables, also grading out very highly on our pSPARQ database. He's a height-weight-speed prospect with some raw talent that the Seahawks will undoubtedly work to mold to their system, as they did with Kam Chancellor.

UPDATE: Seattle plans to try Pinkins out at cornerback as well, which is definitely an interesting thought.

He fits the Legion of Boom from a physical standpoint so it will be very interesting to see how he plays during camp and preseason.

From Nolan Nawrocki at NFL.com:

STRENGTHS Solid two-year tackle production. Will come up to support the run. Exceptional pro-day performance, clocking a 4.44-second 40-yard dash time at 220 pounds, recording a 39 1/2-inch vertical jump and 25 bench-press reps of 225 pounds. Good work habits.

WEAKNESSES Only a two-year starter with just three career interceptions. Average ball skills. Lacks ideal range and can be beaten over the top (see Ohio State). Not clean changing directions, as supported by a 4.31-second 20-yard shuttle time indicating below-average agility. Ordinary eyes and anticipation in coverage. Will be stressed by the quickness of NFL slot receivers.

DRAFT PROJECTION Priority free agent

BOTTOM LINE Height-weight-speed prospect who made a statement at his pro day and could command late draftable interest for his speed and athletic ability. A late bloomer, Pinkins is still learning the nuances of the game and could need to make a mark on special teams to earn a spot.
