So we’re all familiar with the recent plummeting of Teddy Bridgewater’s draft stock. To think that this kid could fall to the second round is craziness to me. After watching some tape he’s clearly a top two QB in this class, depending on your opinion on Manziel. I get the argument about his pro day, but should one afternoon workout discredit three years of tape that would suggest him being a top 10 pick? I’m going with no.
But seeing as we have our recently divorced wonder boy at quarterback you’re probably asking yourself, "Why would we ever want Bridgewater!?" The answer is we don’t…but I’m sure somebody does. The likelihood of all quarterback needy teams at the top take one that doesn’t include Bridgewater is slim. Teams like Jacksonville, Tampa Bay, and Minnesota will all be trying to get ahead of Houston who should take Clowney first overall.
I do realize that this is all hypothetical and if Bridgewater falls to the Patriots I’m sure they’d do the same. But there’s still a chance and I’m excited to see if it could happen. If everything went as planned I could see us getting a pretty good haul of picks due to a franchise quarterback being on the line. If we got a couple second rounders or maybe even a first for next year I would be ecstatic. This would be a perfect move for John and Pete as they could get much more value than any of the players that will be available at 32.
I think that Pete and John will get out of 32 whether it’s trading up or down. As an optimist and any American who wants success immediately, I think that we should trade up. I feel this way due to the amount of depth we already have on this roster. If a team like Pittsburgh realizes they have no depth and want it we could get a trade going and make a play for either Aaron Donald, Eric Ebron, Zack Martin, or Odell Beckham.
The odds of us trading down at this point, however, are pretty high seeing as there will probably be no top talent at a position of need available and recent history suggests that John and Pete aren’t fans of trading up. But whatever happens come May 8th, I’ll be excited because I have an insane amount of confidence in John Schneider to get the best player who wants to compete. It also helps that all of this speculation about who will be going where will finally be over.
