One interesting former Seahawk news of note this week is that the Eagles are taking a look at Walter Thurmond at safety. Per Brandon Lee Gowton over at Bleeding Green Nation, Philly has given WT3 a solid chunk of reps there in OTAs.
"He's always around the ball," head coach Chip Kelly said. "I think he's had a lot of experience playing nickel, so he's been an inside guy. He can see things. He's very intelligent. He's an intuitive football player. He is the first guy out of that corner mix that is getting a shot at inside."
The Seahawks have liked to get their guys plenty of experience at both safety and corner -- and have done so recently with DeShawn Shead and Eric Pinkins, but as far as I know, never tried Thurmond there when he was with the team. At least, not in games.
"[The only experience I have includes] whatever reps I've taken in practice," Thurmond said. "Scout team and stuff like that. Just getting conditioning up and going out there and trying to give our offense the best look for preparing the week and stuff like that. I've had some experience. Nothing in a game."
As for his days at Oregon or high school?
"Same thing. Just practice. Just practice reps and stuff like that. But those are very crucial. At the end of the day, it's football. I've been in some of the biggest games that you can play in this league. It doesn't phase me about the competition level. It's just a new position and I'm up for the challenge."
Anyway, not really news, per se, but I found it interesting. May be a better way for Thurmond to make the roster and get on the field.
