Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen collected 181 yards off of 13 targets and 9 receptions on Monday night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was the consensus difference-maker on the field where the Panthers used the flood concept to vertically stretch the Bucs’ defense.
In this video breakdown, I explain the flood concept and how Olsen was the middle read on those targets. Additionally, I also looked at the other trends of the game.
The flood concept consists of a three-level read. This concept was used a few different times during the game, creating multiple 20-plus yard plays. Olsen continues to be one of the best tight ends in football as a match-up nightmare versus defenses.
The Seattle Seahawks face the Bucs in Week 12 and then immediately face Carolina the following week. Expect the Panthers to use this flood concept during their match, and let’s hope K.J. Wright and Bobby Wagner are ready to defend against Olsen’s receiving prowess.
