Brian Spurlock-US PRESSWIRE
Wanting a quick retrospective look at this current front office's search for a franchise caliber quarteback, I found it fascinating to go back and re-listen to some of Pete Carroll's comments on what he is looking for in a quarterback, spoken to reporters at the 2012 Combine. Obviously, this is just a quick blog post on that, but it's pretty remarkable to hear him describe that ideal player at the quarterback position.
Carroll:
"A guy that throws a catchable ball."
(This is something that Carroll gleaned from hours of conversations on the quarterback position with Bill Walsh, and this "catchable ball" is something that Carroll brought up in Win Forever.)
"A great competitor."
"A guy that can really carry it when it's tough and make plays."
"Affects guys around him in a real positive way."
"A lot more to it than just the physical stature and all."
"Ideally, we would like to have a guy that can move around a little bit and compliment the running game.. Get out on the edge and threaten enough to keep the running game we are so committed to, alive."
