Sidney Rice Injury: Seahawks WR has torn ACL

Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

ProFootballTalk is reporting that Seahawks WR Sidney Rice has a torn ACL, which means, obviously, that his season is over.

While Rice hadn't looked quite up to the level he played at last year while fighting a nagging knee injury during preseason and the early parts of the year, this is kind of a big hit to the offense. Rice is a big target with a giant catch radius and dependable hands, and always seemed reliable for at least one crazy, diving or falling out of bounds catch in a key moment. He's also very underrated for his downfield blocking on screens and runs, and honestly that part of his game may be missed the most.

It's likely that Percy Harvin will take Rice's place on the roster and guys like Jermaine Kearse and Bryan Walters may find themselves with more snaps. If anyone is going to get a boost in targets from this injury though, it might be Doug Baldwin.

In reality, this season ending injury for Rice also means we may have seen his last snap in a Seahawks uniform. His cap hit of $9.7M next year with only $2.4M in dead money ($7.3M in cap savings) had meant for a while that this was probably going to be Rice's last year in Seattle (at that contract, anyway). Rice has a cap hit of $9.7M this year, which the Seahawks will be on the hook for.
