Pete Carroll: Not looking likely that Max Unger or Breno Giacomini will play Sunday

Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

Pete Carroll didn't make any declarations, but said it would be tough for Seahawks' All-Pro center Max Unger and starting right tackle Breno Giacomini to play this week. Of course, Seattle is already without their Pro Bowl left tackle in Russell Okung.

Said Pete this morning:

"We are banged up, and we've got some guys that are going to have a hard time making it this week, particularly we haven't been able to get Breno Giacomini or Max Unger back, full-go, on the practice field. So, we're going to have some guys step up - we'll always be about the guys that step in and not about the guys that can't go, so we'll see how Lem (Lemuel Jeanpierre) does at center, and we're kind of fired up to see how Michael Bowie does if he gets the chance to play at tackle. He's been coming along strong, so that's kind of how the season goes, those are the issues you face, and hopefully we'll deal with this very well."

Well. No other way to put this than this is a potentially huge blow if neither player is able to make it back by Sunday. Losing 3/5ths of your starting offensive line is never a good thing, particularly in a zone-blocking scheme that is so dependent on timing and cooperation.

The good news is that Seattle has a mobile quarterback in Russell Wilson, and against a heavy-blitzing team like the Texans, there are some things you can do to move him out of the pocket and take away that immediate disadvantage. Regardless, it seems like it's going to be a dogfight on Sunday.

Here's Carroll's interview from this morning.
