SBN Mock Draft
The football wing of SBN is once again running a mock draft. To the right there is the slightly askew graphic that corresponds with this event. So, uh...here's who's been picked so far.
#1 Miami Dolphins - Chris Long
#2 St. Louis Rams - Vernon Gholston
#3 Atlanta Falcons - Jake Long
#4 Oakland Raiders - Darren McFadden
#5 Kansas City Chiefs - Sedrick Ellis
#6 New York Jets - Glenn Dorsey
I don't know what else to add. They're posting about 3 picks a day. We'll revisit this in a few days when Seattle's pick is forthcoming and we have a better idea of who'll be available. At that time I'll open a discussion thread and you guys can decide who we want. It's your show, I'll butt out.
Actual content to follow. I'm starting tight end previews today.

Community Scouting: A Call for Help
I'm trying to organize community scouting like Tom Tango does but for the NFL draft, but can't find any decent polling software. My plan is to list the top 100 prospects or so and break their play into 6 basic abilities. So for a running back it might be: Inside Run, Outside Run, Receiving, Blocking, Break Away Ability and Health. For each people vote from very bad to bad to average to good to very good. I'm a big believer that a dedicated group of fans is just as able, more able in fact, to evaluate a player than a scout. Very Bad would be worth 0 points, Bad 2, Average 5, Good 7 and Very Good 10. Then I average all the responses and generate a profile. So 'Running Back A' might look like this:
Inside Run: 8.2
Outside Run: 6.7
Receiving: 5.4
Blocking: 9.2
Break Away Ability: 3.4
Health: 8.8
From that I'd make a player card for a few players that would look a bit like this.

Anyway, I'm sort of stuck at square one because I can't find any decent polling software. Any help with finding some would be super appreciated.

Talkin' Hawk at KSTW
Reciprocity may be the origin of all society--I think I learned that in an anthropology class at somepoint. I'm talking Seahawks over at KSTW.com, I don't get KSTW but do get the Portland equivalent, something I know only as the CW. It carried the few Mariners games I got to see this season, so that was pretty cool. Anyway, I'm talking Hawks with Joe Gura today sometime around 11. That's good for me and the site and all he asked for in return was a little hyping on my part. So go check it out, one hand washes the other--boy, I feel unclean just typing that.

12 Seahawks Street: The Un-journalists
Still don't know what unjournalist means, I guess if me and Mike Sando were to ever come into contact we'd both instantaneously vanish. This is a "roundtable" in which I'm the only one foolish enough to show my face or use my real name. I guess I still just don't understand how these internets work. Anyway, they asked me to be funny--which is funny, because all my writing used to be funny, but now I'm doing analysis and think maybe I forgot how to be funny. Lots of flip remarks peppered with pop culture references, right? Or is that old. Should I have acted like a dick and referenced Anchor Man? Talked in the third person? Rehash a Lenny Bruce bit? Ape McSweeney's? Anyway, that's my mug sitting beside all the perplexing and moderately offensive comments. I look surprised and vaguely peeved--I took the picture myself.

And They're Off!
Well, to be exact, they're practicing. Sando reports that the conditioning tests have been completed, and it appears everyone has passed. Kelly Jennings also remains unsigned.
I'm lagging a bit on the defense previews -- it's been really busy here in Oly the last couple of days -- but hopefully we'll have some quality time with the Excel sheets and multiple browser windows on Sunday. Have a good weekend.
