AQA w/ Cat Scratch Reader

Update: That ends our AQA thread. Thanks to Jaxor for enriching our slow Saturday. Thanks to everyone for the respectful participation. If you're a loser like me, and have no plans on Saturday night, I'll have a beer infused Odds & Sods post up tonight, w/ picks for gamblors, w/ picks for fantasy ballers, w/ lyrics to songs, w/ off color humor and a bunch of other crap. So, you probably want to stay away.

We're opening up the AQA thread.

Jaxon from CSR will be joining us tomorrow today between 9 and 12 for an All Questions Answered thread. Feel free to drop by tomorrow today and quiz him on the Hawks upcoming opponent, or if you know you can't attend but have something you'd like answered, post the question in this diary and I'll forward it to him.

Thanks.

Do you think you need a new QB?
or do you still have faith in Delhomme?

Jake Should be OK
If he recovers from surgery he should be able to play at a high level next season. He was playing very well prior to the injury. We need to start grooming a replacement and as of right now we don't have one

Don't worry about it.

Who's the Seahawks defensive MVP season to date?

Team Effort: (Cut/Paste)
Defense, I'd split it between Tats, Peterson, Trufant and Kerney. If forced to pick one, I might actually pick Tru. Tats is something special. It's hard to measure his contributions as a leader and defensive play caller. If he were hurt, though, the loss would be bad, but not crippling. Koutouvides is a decent run tackler, but not Tats equal in coverage. Kerney and Peterson are most important for their pass rush ability. Subtract both and you cripple the team, but without one or the other the loss could be absorbed. This wouldn't be a top defense, but the Hawks have depth at both positions.

Tru, however, anchors this secondary. Seattle is 6th against #1 receivers, and most of the team's ahead of them (Indy, TB) gameplan against #1s, or have another player (like Ed Reed in Baltimore) that plays a huge part in their team's overall effectiveness at defending #1s. Grant helps, but like Bailey in Denver or Newman in Dallas, the Hawks are strong against #1 receivers mostly because of their #1 cornerback. If Tru were ever to go down, not only would Jennings be a step down at the #1 CB slot (especially WRT to turnover potential) but Babs would be a disaster at the #2.

I was pissed when Grant left the Panthers
We've sucked at FS ever since.

You had me wondering
if Grant played SS and Mintor had already moved to FS. Grant did play FS though. I had to go look it up. Grant left after our SB year.

The Panthers haven't been the same
since they lost to the Seahawks in the NFC title game in 2005.

Yeah...
So i have to ask, what's up with Peppers?

by John Morgan on Dec 15, 2007 9:29 AM PST up reply actions

I wish I knew
Many RT's are handling him one-on-one. He just doesn't seem inspired. No fire on the field (though I realize he is more of the quiet type of leader). He drops into coverage sometimes. Next season is a contract season so many people expect the Panthers to resign him this offseason. Maybe they wait now.

Do the Seahawks Still Have OT Chris Terry?
He's a former Panther that was cut after a run in with the law I believe. Something off-the-field.

Left after 2004 season, currently playing for the Chiefs.

What happened to Ken Lucas?
He was so good a couple of years ago, but he's seemed to fallen off of a cliff.

Lucas has played pretty well this season
Not at a Pro Bowl level but good. He has a couple INT's. He plays a little deep so gives up a lot in front of him. He gets handled at the line some times too.

I still have hope for D-Will
Foster can go though because of the fumbles. Our line hasn't blocked well and the new zone-blocking scheme that was trumpeted at the start of the season hasn't resulted in consistent production.

He's hardly a genius
but I wouldn't call him horrible either. All you'll get out of him is "the players need to execute". There is truth to that but I also think the coaching staff has been slow to react to needed changes. I'm more focused on the screwed up personnel moves (Carr, Jarrett, Keyshawn).

How about drafting a RB in the 1st round
you don't play. I second the Panthers need for a new GM.

No body but McFaddin
Otherwise we need OL help. He have a collection of average players.

Matt Moore on his potentially first NFL start:
It would be an opportunity," Moore said. "This week, practice has gone good. If it happens I've just got to go out there and make things happen. Move the ball and just be efficient."

This a good development for anybody thinking of playing the Seahawk D against the Panthers in Fantasy.

What was the general fanbase reaction
to signing 44 year old Vinnie Testaverde as opposed to any other available QB's? You know, cuz he's old

by tootthekazoo on Dec 15, 2007 10:56 AM PST reply actions

Shocked at first
But then he played pretty good. Better than Carr and Moore. Until last week at least. I said we would never get 10 starts out of him. He may have one more left giving him 7.

The pickins were slim.
He's done about as good as could have been expected. Six starts at 43-44 yrs old is a lot. Who else is out there?

Has Steve Smith lost any ability
over the last few years, or is he just a product of the team underperforming around him?

by tootthekazoo on Dec 15, 2007 11:14 AM PST reply actions

Smitty hasn't lost a thing
The problem is the passes coming his way are late, or behind him, or over his head. Two weeks ago the Panthers starting getting him more carries using him at QB, reverses and hook & ladder plays. This a decent QB Smith is an elite receiver again (or a healthy Jake Delhomme).

Is it time
To jump off the Jake Delhomme bandwagon? The inconsistencies, the injuries, the lack of mobility,  do you think this is still the franchise QB?
We're going FOUR-WARD!!

by SSreporters on Dec 15, 2007 11:32 AM PST reply actions

I'm still on his bandwagon
Jake was playing well prior to the injury. I spent a few days at TC and I was impressed with his accuracy. If he goes down early again next season then he may be done. I would expect him to play ok but get better as the season progresses. The OL needs to keep him on his feet though.
I blog the Carolina Panthers @ www.catscratchreader.com

by Jaxon on Dec 15, 2007 11:49 AM PST reply actions

Delhomme is nearing 32...
He doesn't have far to decline to be a liability. I don't think of it as a bandwagon, the team needs to draft a successor, trade for a successor, or face the dreaded protracted rebuilding phase.

Maybe Derek Anderson?
Cleveland has a nice problem. How long can they sit Brady Quinn?

Fred Taylor jsut gashed the Panthers for an 80 yd TD. Maybe Sean can do one too.

Fred Taylor
Runs towards the end zone, not east, then west, and then backwards.
Coming up on FOX, it's East/West, the Shaun Alexander story.
