The only NFL team ever named after a poem is storming into Qwest Field after a rousing win against the winless Miami Dolphins last week! It's gonna be a...

Whaddaya mean, "Go back and read Monday's sports page again"? Well, all right, let's see... hmm, NFL page... scores... oh... oh, my.

Um... uh... ahem.

Listen, these guys are probably a little pissed off, so... look, just be... hey, it's Christmas. Be all Christmas-y and stuff. Good cheer. Cocoa. Maybe with some marshmallows. Or brandy.

my first time at the game!
If the Hawks pull a New Orleans or Carolina today, I'm going to cry.

Section 311
Fellow resident of the upper levels...The only time I've been down below is for Seattle Sounders soccer games.

Of course, there are usually about 1-2,000 people total there, so you pretty much get to choose where you want to sit.

I'll be with my mom in a Blue Hasselbeck over a white Tatupu with a pair of the neon green receiver gloves.  Feel free to say hello if you think you see me.

Go Hawks!

Trying out some new stuff...
Over the next two weeks I'll be amping up for the playoffs and therefore trying out some new stuff. Here's a depth chart for the Ravens, the info is courtesy Fox Sports.

This should just be the tip of the iceberg. Also, anyone know of any freely available video editing software?

Why
Did the guys at CBS think Oakland/Jacksonville was a game for us?
Coming up on Showtime, it's Shaun of the Dead.

by SSreporters on Dec 23, 2007 10:05 AM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I've got a strange feeling
Shaun has a big day, just a weird gut feeling.

Chances of it happening? -15%

Josh Brown is better than you. The Rest of the team is worse.

Mmmm...
Think we're gonna see an air attack, myself. The Ravens are still 2nd in the league against the run. 20th against the pass.

I actually had a dream last night and Shaun had a huge game.  I figured it was a sign.

Trust me, I have no statistical evidence to back this up.

Yeah.
It's the wind that we don't like. There's none of that today. I can't recall seeing Hasselbeck have a bad game because of the rain. (Um, unless our receivers drop passes.)

by zetternutz on Dec 23, 2007 12:21 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Packers are getting their guts stomped out.
After picking them in the preseason, then watching them some, I've been pretty skeptical of their success. I don't trust teams that seem to be getting a ton of production w/ the deep pass. That rarely holds up. Lots of luck/chance.

Meanwhile, Derek Anderson is coming back to Earth.

by John Morgan on Dec 23, 2007 12:23 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

because the packers rely on the deep pass
i think they might benefit a little bit by playing the game in dallas where it will be warm.

"Get to the wall"
These announcers have now said this twice in the context of describing a kick/punt return to the outside.  I think it's wrong.  They're trying to get to the outside.  The "wall" is the blockers arrayed directly in front of the returner.  The returner is not getting to the wall when he runs to the outside.

But whatever.

Tecmo Super Bowl III
i picked him off three times with Nate Odoms last night. It's funny the things you break out when you're board at you're parents house.

At home
Why are the Hawks sooo much better in Qwest? I dont have any numbers to back this, but it sure seems they are way more effective in the drizzle of Seattle.

by BUCKETSinSB on Dec 23, 2007 2:37 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Qwest
No travel, other team travels (frequently across the country, as in today), crowd noise, and I think the turf.  Our pass rush appears much better on turf than on grass.  No data for that, just anecdotal.

by jeager on Dec 23, 2007 2:40 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

the turf
i was thinking the turf helped the hawks too. Burls seems faster and the passing game smoother as well.

Shaun CAUGHT a touchdown
and broke tackles in the process?????

OH MY
Alexander, screen, touchdown?  What is going on here?

by jeager on Dec 23, 2007 2:41 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

bizarre is right
maybe starting the game on the bench lit a fire under Alexander's ass. Or maybe he knows Ray Lewis isn't waiting there to kill him.

I think he's sitll at 99 rushing
Pretty sure that screen counted as a reception TD. Unfortunately.
Let's go.

At least he's having a positive game this year
Thank God. I was afraid it wouldn't happen.

He's looking quick enough to compete at this level, hopefully this can turn into a regular thing.

Let's go.

im starting
to like these annoucers for cbs.... i love it after that fumble just a simple.... yeap which summed up baltimores half perfectly
I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me.

He still needs one more rushing TD
for 100 rushing TD's. That was a reciving one and gives him 111 total for his career I believe.

Halftime Cap:
The Ravens have some name recognition, but the Baltimore squad that took the field today is a very bad team. Let's get that right out of the way.

You know what, it doesn't matter. Because when you face a bad team, you take them down. You grind them into powder, and that's what the Seahawks are doing.

The Seahawks defense, right now, looks like the best squad in the NFL. Even players who have been weaknesses or have disappeared for stretches are showing up. Brian Russell is sealing off the deep pass. Darryl Tapp is getting excellent and steady edge rush. The run D is intimidating, turning simple off tackle rushes into the equivalent of a sack. Kelly Jennings has elevated his game to the point that in just his second season, the Hawks may already have the best pair of cover corners in the NFL.

Am I gushing? Because I'm not done.

Shaun Alexander has had a very nice half. No play, no play all season, has so inspired confidence, out of the ether, magic, rebirth, confidence like his screen reception. Any rusher given enough touches is going to find an empty spot on the field, but Alexander exploded after the catch and showcased a second gear like I've seen maybe a dozen times from him all season. I can't explain how happy it makes me to see him not just produce, but play well. Beck's two picks are, eh, basically near worst case scenario for some questionable decisions. I wouldn't sweat it. The guy looks like a West Coast Savant out there. He's reading the D, he's audibling right. Dude's on fire.

And if you were wondering, it was Boone Klutz. He was that bad. Plack is back and his field position contributions are taking a top defense and making them razorblades.

This is fun. Straight, no nonsense, take the bastards behind the woodshed and leave only a pulpy remains, fun. Merry Good-GodDamn Christmas, everyone and God bless Seahawks football.
