Broncos Get Graham
The free agency mini-spar between the Seahawks and Broncos ends, purportedly, in a draw: the Boston Globe's Mike Reiss reports that former Patriot TE Daniel Graham has been snapped up by Denver, for 5 years and $30M, $15M guaranteed. That's, um, pretty steep. (More elucidation from Doug Farrar of Seahawks.net.)
This clouds up the open tight end position for the Seahawks, who were in the pursuit for the Super Bowl veteran. It would seem to indicate a chance for Jerramy Stevens to return to the team -- but he's in Tampa Bay this very moment, speaking to the Bucs.
There's also -- heh, heh -- um, you know, there's -- ha -- uhhh -- you know -- Randy -- uh -- McMichael -- haha...
Anyway. Who we got?

Im actually relieved
I really don't know why everyone loved Graham so much. he had like 21 catches last season as a #2 tight end, he's a solid blocker yes, but I don't think he's an "elite" tight end by any means.
I really like the Allen (or Allan) kid from the DIII school and I think the university of Minnesota has a pretty good tight end in the draft as well.
This free's us up to hopefully re-sign Hamlin or sign Deion Grant. Maybe we can get the Duckett Bucket as well.
This contract would of been an albatross, we already got one in Kerney (who I like more than Graham), we can live with one albatross-2 would of been tough.
yeah.
Even given our collective malaise over Jerramy Stevens, I'm not sure I would have felt totally comfy giving Graham that kind of salary in exchange for giving up on Stevens. Which is to say neither's an ideal situation, but I'd probably lean towards Stevens because of youth.
I'm getting the hunch that Stevens is still gonna be a Hawk. Could be wrong, but it's been quiet from Tampa Bay this afternoon.
n/s
If it came down to it I would also take Stevens over Graham. Stevens is just better suited for our system and like him or not he is a legitimate downfield threat.
However, I still think Stevens is gone. I think we go through the draft for a TE. I have zero insight, this is just my hunch.
Graham is better reciever

This is a situation..
The Broncos utilize double-TE sets a majority of the time, so having Graham and Scheffler on the field at the same time gives Cutler another weapon in the passing game.
For you guys, Kerney provides that depth on the D-Line, and the ability to rotate, that should keep him fresh and productive. While the Broncos may have "needed" is services a bit more I would rather get a Jarvis Moss or Adam Carriker in the draft, a younger player, becuase the Broncos are so needy at the position. I was afraid Kerney would wear out hainv got play every down...
Overall, a positive couple of days for both teams...

I think you're right
And guys like Graham are really great for guys like Cutler to work with.
Much rather have Eric Johnson
But then again there are some good options in the draft this year too.
doesnt matter...
