Question:
Why is snap yardage factored in when figuring field goal length, but not for punts?

I figure it's just because when they defined the..
stats it was easier to figure out exactly where a FG was kicked from than a punt because the holder is static while the punter is moving.

by Phildopip on Sep 16, 2007 1:38 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Incidental or not,
they have to make that call. It doesn't matter if you accidentally run into the quaterback or kicker, you're still going to be penalized.

by Coach Owens on Sep 16, 2007 1:42 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

No
the defender has as much right to the ball as the receiver. As long as he's playing the ball, it won't be pass interference.

One play from scrimmage and the Cardinals are already in Rackers' range.

Also, the stadium is still new and they put the radio guys in the corner of the end zone.  That's second-rate.

First Half Cap:
The Hawks come out looking very flat, especially rushing the passer, but ten points is not much of a lead.

Three Things to Consider

  1. Alexander looks slow and hesitant. Blame his age, his foot or his wrist but Seattle must start spreading the ball around. Leonard Weaver and Alvin Pearman deserve looks rushing and receiving in the second half. Unfortunately, the Hawks rushing problems don't fall all on Alabama. Clancy Pendergast has correctly called rush or pass on almost every play, resulting in lots of stuffed rushing attempts and two coverage sacks. Seattle needs to be able to get into better down and distance situations, if they do I fully expect their rushing and passing attack to come back to life.
  2. The Hawks are clearly confused defensively. For whatever reason, Whisenhunt's crap gives John Marshall's attacking defense fits. Most likely it's Whizzie's creative blocking formations, and Matt Leinart's poise. After a game where pressure led to Jeff Garcia fleeing the pocket again and again, Leinart looks like the veteran, sticking in the pocket and never taking his eyes from down field. For Seattle's defense to be productive in the second half they must convert first tackles against James. They must convert pass rush into sacks. And the must stop biting on play fakes again and again. It's only going to get harder in the second half, with a lead and 30 minutes worth of tape expect some trick plays.
  3. The strength versus strength matchup between Patrick Kerney and Levi Brown has clearly favored Brown thus far. Kerney simply lacks the speed to effectively edge rush. The Hawks must try and compensate. I still don't believe in Brown's quickness and think an overload blitz, a nickel blitz, or a zone blitz with outside pressure could cause havoc.
Seattle is far from out of this game, but unlike when they were behind against the Bucs, they are being outplayed. Now is the time for adjustments. The offensive playcalling needs to become less predictable. The downfield pass/burned down must be scrapped. The Hawks need to go back to the efficient dink and dunk attack that let them get into favorable down and distance against Tampa Bay. Seattle is still the better team, but right now, they're being outcoached. Adjust, man up, the Hawks have thirty minutes to take this--it's starts with Arizona's first possession.

weird
That was kind of a weird sequence because first I got the impression that the Seahawks had too many yards to go and a five-yard facemask penalty wouldn't get them the first-down yardage on that third-down play.  Then someone reminded the ref that they had to replay the down.  So then it was 3rd-and-9 and the pass play went to Engram.

Sports and Bremertonians. Because we can.

f$*&ing s$%#
What the balls?!  Their receivers are good, you don't have to make them look any better.

Good Lord.  Hold them to a field goal.

Sports and Bremertonians. Because we can.

by TIF on Sep 16, 2007 3:45 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

This is embarassing
300 yards passing to the Cardinals? Not that I don't think Leinart is a good QB (USC student/fan) but how is his line giving him that kind of time?

by bluemax on Sep 16, 2007 3:46 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Kerney adjusting.
Can't bull rush, can't get outside, work the inside...like what I'm seeing.

by John Morgan on Sep 16, 2007 3:46 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

drop!
Josh Brown is better than you.

by MFAN on Sep 16, 2007 3:46 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Close game.
You want to blow them out, but this is a good situation to get the win. We'll take them out at Qwest when the Cards O-Line can't hold on every play.

Okay it's official
This stadium is a bandbox.  No wonder Rackers can nail 60 yarders in practice.  There's no resistence in the air here at all.
