Wahle = a Seahawk!!

Good News Mike Wahle signs with the Hawks

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/football/nfl/02/14/wahle.seattle/index.html

Not sure what the contract is.

Nice start to the off-season.

Update: Let's review, signing Wahle:

Improves two line positions, one drastically.

Gives Seattle, should they re-sign Lock (probably this one) or draft any of this draft's bevy of left tackles (should be this one) a much improved rush blocking line and one of the best pass blocking lines in the NFL.

Allows excellent draft flexibility, ensuring Ruskell can stick to the "best available player" model that has led to so many successful drafts.

And here's the juice: Flexibility means the Seahawks first round pick is someone to get excited about. Very. I'll show you why tomorrow.

A place to bury strangers.

Great news
As soon as I saw that Wahle was cut, I was hoping this would happen.  I imagine that we're all but out of the Faneca market now (which I'm fine with -- that's gonna be a huge contract).

I've been thinking about ideal draft options and it seems like I keep coming up with USC guys -- Fred Davis, Baker, Radovich, Booty...

Oh, and I might forever call him...
Good News Mike Wahle just because of this post.

YES!!!!!
my poor grammar skills have created a nickname!
Josh Brown is better than you. The Rest of the team is worse.

Good News Mike Wahle
I'm so happy we got 'Good News Mike Wahle'. This was a MAJOR problem last year, possibly even bigger than running back.

Correct me if I'm Wrong
Wahle is a left guard? If that's the case, then we can bench Sims, re-sign Locklear, and the idea of drafting an OT in Sam Baker in the 1st round would be gone!

Sims doesn't need to be benched
I personally think Sims is going to be an awesome RG.

Sims got way too much crap last season.

Josh Brown is better than you. The Rest of the team is worse.

If you had to bench
Spencer or Sims, who would you choose?
RIP Roy Scheider

by SSreporters on Feb 14, 2008 5:05 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

neither
The thing is, no one needs to be benched.  It sounds like we are pushing hard to re-sign Locklear, which means.
LT Jones
LG Wahle
C Spencer
RG Simms
RT Locklear

Gray will either retire or comeback in a reduced role (which I'd actually fully support).

Josh Brown is better than you. The Rest of the team is worse.

Yeah, Gray is actually
a decent player when he gets lots of rest and plays about every third series, he could help a lot being a backup.

Nice!
Yet another example of the stark difference between seahawks' and mariners' upper management.

I don't think I could handle both my fave teams being poorly run.

I... don't understand how this works
I cannot reconcile a local sports team pulling off a move so quickly that was sanctioned by the blogosphere beforehand.

I know
I'm struggling with it, too.  This might be the first time that this has happened.  I'm puzzled.  Happy, yet...uneasy.

Soon it'll be only happy.

Adrian Beltre
was probably the only other resoundingly triumphant move that the local teams have made in the last handful of years.  I don't remember anyone saying that was a bad move, including the locals.

But I could be wrong about that..just the way I remember it.

This is great
I just have a barrage of names coming to me who I would love in Seahawks uniform from the first 3 rounds.

Mendenhall,Stewart,Davis,Baker, Cherilus, Chris Williams, Nicks, Carlson, Rucker, Rice, Kevin Smith, Slaton, Barton, Finley, Tamme, Cousins, Forte, Chris Johnson etc etc

This makes for a lot of flexibility in the draft.

Hated to see him go
He is a player and should have several good years left in him if his shoulder continues to heal. Good move by the Seahawks.

Gray and Lock
If he decides not to retire and if he's cheap, I think it'd be great to keep him as a backup.  He can back up both guard and center, which is a plus.

Especially if Gray stays, seems Pork Chop oughtta be the odd man out.

If it's true that the Hawks are gonna pay big bucks to keep Lock here, does that mean they see him as the LT of the future?  John's said that he doesn't think Lock projects well at LT.
