Gif highlights from 12/21/08 (Warning, thread may take a while to load)
I was going to put all of these under the fanshots, but I can only seem to put one image per shot. In any case, here's a few highlights from last Sunday's game versus the Jets.
Courtney Taylor falling reception late 2nd quarter
John Carlson TD reception late 2nd quarter
Josh Wilson INT off Brett Farve late 4th quarter
I'm going to try and get Wilson's QB sack gif'd tomorrow. Anything else I should try to capture?

Mariners ditching advance scouts, transferring duties to stats department
Fascinating tidbit from Geoff Baker this afternoon. The Mariners will no longer be using an advanced scout for games.
One new development with the Mariners that kind of got lost in the crazed aftermath of that 12-player J.J. Putz trade is that Seattle will no longer use an advance scout for games. This role is instead being transfered to the team's new department of statistical analysis. The idea is that the team will receive video of their opponents and have workers in the new department break down each pitch from a statistical viewpoint. They can grade the break on curve balls, tendencies to throw certain pitches in certain situations, figure out what hitters like to swing at, that sort of thing.
Sounds almost as if they're going to be using PitchF/X quite a bit next season. This seems to be the first real news we've heard about the new department of baseball research that GMZ spoke about shortly after being hired.
Now, what are the odds that Jeff, Matthew, and Graham have submitted resumes?

OTFPOTD: No one has done it yet edition
Well it's Friday. Finally.
Today's interesting links:
- Looks like we could be in for some fun weather tonight.Snow and/or high wind expected by the evening commute.
- Ancient cannabis stash found in China.
- The six most pointlessly elaborate movie murder plots.
- The NPD Numbers are out for November's console sales. Nintendo sold a stunning 2 million Wiis, Microsoft sold a very respectable 800,000 360 consoles, but Sony's PS3 took it in the shorts. Now The Washington Times is letting Sony have it.
- Sony really can't catch a break. Now Second Life Home is broken.
Today's potential discussion questions:
- Who here is good with car detailing? My Celica is showing the tell-tale signs of red paint oxidation and I'm wondering how I should deal with it.
- Remember those classic novels you had to read in high school? Which one did you hate the most?
- Snow gets a bad rap around here by the media. Personally, I love it. Do you still get excited every time you see it snowing around here?
Late edit: Today's the last day to donate to Dave's scholarship fund. If you've been thinking about it but haven't donated yet, Here's the pledgie link.

I'm not sure what we should call this. Dead cat bounce? Look ma no hands/arms/upper limbs? A heady attempt?
Keep an eye on #25, because Brian Russell is simply too beautiful to play defense.

RIP Ed McMichael - The Tuba Man
Posted over at Lookout Landing earlier...
If you've been to any sort of college or professional sporting event in Seattle, you've seen Ed McMichael, The Tuba Man. Sadly, The warm tones of his tuba after games won't be heard again.
Ed McMichael, the Seattle Sports Tuba Man, murdered at 53.
Ed was one of my earliest professional sports related memories. I remember listening to him in front of the Kingdome as a child in the mid-90s. I've had a few brief chats with him outside of Safeco and Qwest over the last few years. He was as friendly a fellow as anyone.
Rest in peace, Ed. Seattle has just lost a beloved piece of our sporting culture.

Seahawks Anonymous - Filling in for Scruffy edition
Post-game bitching goes in here. Try to keep the reactionary fanposts to a minimum. Actually, if you're thinking of creating a fanpost and there's nothing constructive to say, it would probably be best not to post it.
If you don't feel like bitching about football, let's talk music.
This is a great cover of a classic Bobby Blue Band tune "Farther up the Road."
One of the four people in this music video doesn't belong. He's sort of Londonbeat's own Brian Russell.
A few weeks ago we talked about things we hate. Let's talk about things we like.
