Seahawks recall corpse of Jeff Robinson (LS) out of retirement

6th round Long Snapper Tyler Schmitt is on Injured Reserve. Tim Lindsay is erratic. What do the Seahawks do?

Call Jeff Robinson out of retirement. Again. Horay for Bruce DeHaven, who I assume is BFF with Robinson.

Just got a call from Dave Boling, who is up at the VMAC, and boy did he have some interesting news. The Seahawks are bringing back 38-year-old Jeff Robinson to be the team's long snapper.

Holmgren and Personal Fouls

I think it's fairly well known that the Seahawks under Mike Holmgren have been a disciplined team as far as accruing penalty flags. But Mike Sando did something interesting in his NFC West blog on ESPN, his researchers went back to 2001 and collected Personal Foul records to answer the question: who is the dirtiest team? The results are a little surprising:

1 Tampa Bay 127
2 Arizona 124
3 Detroit 124
4 Tennessee 119
5 NY Giants 119
6 Washington 117
7 New England 116
8 Atlanta 113
9 Chicago 112
10 Miami 110
11 Oakland 109
12 New Orleans 108
13 Baltimore 108
14 Carolina 107
15 Philadelphia 105
16 Cincinnati 104
17 Green Bay 101
18 Buffalo 99
19 Denver 95
20 Cleveland 95
21 Jacksonville 93
22 San Francisco 93
23 Dallas 93
24 San Diego 92
25 Kansas City 89
26 NY Jets 87
27 Pittsburgh 86
28 St. Louis 86
29 Minnesota 85
30 Indianapolis 77
31 Houston 71
32 Seattle 57

Holy crap. And keep in mind that the Texans didn't even start play until 2002! Holmgren sometimes turned a blind eye when drafting to off-field events (coughStevenscough) but it seems he knew what he was looking for in on-field discipline. I hope Mora can continue this strong trend.

Mora officially Hawks head coach in '09

According to Jay Glazer, at least!

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7764658/Sources:-'Hawks-tab-Mora-as-next-head-coach

So there we go. Mora in '09. I bet Ty Willingham feels a bit better now. What's the over/under on number of shots of Mora standing on the sidelines next season, as the announcers talk about his future job?

Update: You can watch the press conference here. It should be a meaty mix of "thank yous" and football platitudes. I'll run a quick recap afterwards.

On a related note, with Mora officially hired, keep an eye on the Lane Kiffin situation in Oakland. Kiffin isn't likely to accept a position as lowly as quarterbacks coach, but Greg Knapp, Mora's offensive coordinator in Atlanta, might.

Quick note for Packers fans

The sole mention of "We want the ball, and we're gonna score!" does *not* melt Hawks fans into a catatonic, drooling heap of shame and embarrassment.

Irregardless (er, regardless) of the fact that the targeted WR ran the wrong route, that it was 4 years ago, and that Matt has matured immensely as a QB, if you want to tell us why a Lambeau victory is inevitable, could you just be so kind and mention the words "Brett Favre" or "Greg Jennings" or "Aaron Kampman"? Or use any argument that mentions current performance?

Ahem. Thanks. Here's to a good game next weekend.

Who We'll Face in the 1st Round

With the Redskins' win tonight, our playoff picture narrows considerably. The Giants clinch the #5 seed, which leaves the Redskins, the Vikings, and the Saints as potential opponents for the Qwest home game.

If the Redskins win against Dallas, a team that's clinched the #1 seed and should be resting starters, they take the 6 seed either outright or through tonight's head to head tiebreaker.

If the Redskins lose to Dallas, and the Vikings win against the Broncos, the Vikings take the 6 seed.

If the Redskins and Vikings both lose, the Saints must win against the Bears to take the 6 seed through the conference record tiebreaker of three 8-8 teams.

If all three teams lose, the Redskins take the 6 seed through tonight's head to head tiebreaker.

Just in from the Q13 postgame- Craig Terril will be performing a song from his new CD, and Josh Brown will be the backup singer. This must be recorded for YouTube.
