The San Francisco 49ers were losing badly through 30 minutes of play on Sunday against the Seahawks. And interim coach Mike Singletary pulled no punches during his first halftime speech -- but he did pull down his pants.
I used my pants to illustrate that we were getting our tails whipped on Sunday and how humiliating that should feel for all of us. I needed to do something to dramatize my point; there were other ways I could have done it but I think this got the message across.
-- Mike Singletary
A team spokesman Thursday confirmed a report by Arizona radio station XTRA's Mike Jurecki that Singletary dropped his pants in front of his team at halftime.
"He was just dramatizing how embarrassing it was," 49ers director of public relations Aaron Salkin said.
The halftime talk went something along the lines of "We're getting our tails whipped out there, now let's get back out there," according to Salkin.
Singletary is not available to the media until Monday, but he did issue this statement: "I used my pants to illustrate that we were getting our tails whipped on Sunday and how humiliating that should feel for all of us. I needed to do something to dramatize my point; there were other ways I could have done it but I think this got the message across. I am excited about having the team back at practice on Monday so we can get back to work."

When asked if Singletary is embarrassed by the incident, Salkin said, "There are other ways he could've done it. He knows that."
Singletary was wearing boxers.
And the animated halftime talk didn't seem to work so well. The 49ers trailed 20-3 at halftime, and lost 34-13.

News flash: Belichick knows his stuff
You think the Patriots are going to be prepared to face the 49ers on Sunday?
Patriots Bill Belichick has an incredible football mind. He demonstrated on Wednesday when the Boston-area media asked about . . . whether it's one of those things where they have to see [the 49ers] on the field to accurately be able to judge their speed and quickness.
. . .
"To a certain extent. Also the scheme and how they are going to play us . . . You can certainly prepare for it and that is a good part of the preparation. But until you see it live, it's a little different.
"We have seen a lot of these players -- defensively, the whole secondary. Donald Strickland was in Indianapolis. Michael Lewis was at Philadelphia and Mark Roman was in Cincinnati. Nate Clements, we saw a lot of in Buffalo. Walt Harris was at Indianapolis and Chicago. We have seen Justin Smith. We have certainly seen Takeo Spikes and (Aubrayo) Franklin.
. . .
Belichick mentioned 15 players on the 49ers roster. And, furthermore, he did it all without notes.
. . .
Meanwhile, Mike Nolan mentioned one Patriots player by name today. Well, he said "Wesley Walker," but I'm pretty sure he meant Wes Welker.

49ers CB Shawntae Spencer to IR, Season Done
EDITOR'S NOTE 6:40PM - I received a text about this and was planning on posting something, so I'll just promote this FanPost. I made a couple changes in the article as copyright laws prohibit posting the entire article. While it sucks to lose Spencer at least the situation is resolved. I'll post my own thoughts in more detail in the comments, but this could be the kind of break that gets Tarell Brown significantly more playing time.

San Francisco 49ers cornerback Shawntae Spencer will miss the rest of the season with a torn ligament in his left knee.

Spencer
Spencer, a fifth-year pro, will be placed on injured reserve soon after undergoing surgery Wednesday to repair the ligament. He injured his knee late in the 49ers' road victory at Seattle on Sept. 14, and missed last week's victory over Detroit.
. . .
Tarell Brown and Donald Strickland will compete to replace Spencer with the 49ers, who kept 12 defensive backs on their 53-man roster to start the season.
Boo Injuries!!!!!

Offseason Fun
While we contemplate how many sacks Ellis will get this year, or whether our secondary will hold, we still have to wait until camps start. So, what's better than to spend your time on this cool little football mmorpg creating a player from the ground up, signing him to teams, playing in simulated games, and adding attributes after leveling up. This things a blast!

Now with a RB to get excited about in JonStew, it seems like we have nothing left to do until camps start up again.
