Seahawks vs. 49ers Week 16 matchup flexed to Sunday Night Football

Cary Edmondson-US PRESSWIRE

It's official: the Seahawks and the 49ers will play both of their matchups this year in primetime. Seattle and San Francisco's December 23rd NFC West divisional tilt at the CLink has been flexed to Sunday Night Football. The game, which could have pretty huge playoff and divisional championship implications, was originally scheduled to be played at 1:25 p.m. and was going to be on FOX. Now, instead of featuring the Chargers and Jets (yawn), the NFL has prudently moved it to 5:20 p.m. on NBC's Sunday Night Football broadcast.

The Seahawks lost to the Niners 13-6 in Week 7 at Candlestick Park in a nationally televised Thursday Night game. Right now, the Niners are 9-3-1, a game-and-a-half up on the Seahawks. San Francisco travels to Foxboro/Gillette Stadium next weekend to face off against a very good Patriots team and if they lose and Seattle wins at Buffalo (in Toronto), we'd be looking at a chance for Seattle to take over first place in the division. That would be pretty interesting, but obviously, both teams still have to take care of their business this week first.
