Coffee and Cigarettes: Seahawks Links for Thursday

This week is just flying by.

2012 Players All-Star Classic Recap: Top 20 Prospects Based on The Week | Articles
Reviewing my notes and recalling practices from last week’s Player’s All-Star Classic, I came up with a list of 20 players who most impressed me. This list isn’t ordered in terms of draft stock, but rather in order of who impressed me the most. All 20 players listed along with 5-8 players from the North and South rosters, have a very good chance at being drafted, which speaks volumes to the excellent job done by the selection committee of this event. Hats off to those guys, and hopefully next year the event will be more advertised for a better showing to the actual game.

2012 NFL Mock Draft: February 8th with Two Rounds | Mock Draft
12 . Seattle Seahawks - Don't'a Hightower, ILB, Alabama -Two of the three starting linebackers for the Seahawks are free agents, and regardless of that fact, they need an upgrade. Hightower can play WLB or ILB and is an outstanding rusher.

6 Round NFL Mock Draft - Mocking The Draft
AS you all know, I normally don’t mock trades but this time I am going to. However, it is not going to be for the 2nd pick in the draft because I think the Rams are going to take Matt Kalil. However, I am going to have the Redskins trade up to the #3 spot and give up their 1st, 2nd, and 5th round picks.

Goodbye 2011 Season. Combine Here We Come. " Pick 256
The 2011 NFL season is just about in the books. There are a few loose ends to be tied up – the Giants parade, a few coaching/assistant vacancies, retirements, etc, – but for all intents and purposes we are ready to kick off the 2012 offseason. For many of us (especially those of us reading an NFL-draft themed website) the offseason is nearly (equally?) as exciting as the regular season. The first stop is the NFL Scouting Combine in just over two weeks. While some of us will be watching each and every drill and keeping our eyes and ears open for draft-related rumblings, others will just pay attention to the big daily headlines. Here are some things to watch:

Harbaugh: Unanimous within 49ers that Smith is 'our guy'
On Saturday, 49ers quarterback Alex Smith went on stage to accept the award for NFL Coach of the Year on behalf of Jim Harbaugh.

Indy writer on Peyton: His 'arm is a noodle' - CBSSports.com
Peyton Manning's change in fortune has been swift. Prior to the 2011 season, the general perception of what he meant to Indianapolis went something like this: he had singlehandedly saved the Colts from themselves, led them to a Super Bowl title in 2006, and his accomplishments were the currency that helped fund Lucas Oil Stadium.

Kenny Powers of 'Eastbound & Down' sends an open letter to Tim Tebow - Grantland
As Yogi Berra famously said, "it's like Deja Vu came all over itself again."

Ranking the NFL’s announce teams – Audibles
It was with great hesitation that I accepted the assignment of ranking the NFL’s announcing teams. This was, for many years, Dr. Z’s territory at Sports Illustrated. Trying to follow him down this road is like being the new QB in Miami after Dan Marino retired.

Cosell Talks: The Giants Defense Rests : NFL Films Blog
The Giants defense in Super Bowl 46 was fascinating, on many levels. Let’s start with personnel. As expected, the Giants featured package was the "big nickel", with 3 safeties, Antrel Rolle, Deon Grant and Kenny Phillips. In fact, all 3 played every snap but one.

NFL.com news: Niners QB Kaepernick: '(I) plan on trying to take the starting job'

Updated mock draft: 8th February " Seahawks Draft Blog
Drafting first round pass rushers has been more miss than hit over the years. Between 2005-2010, 24 first round picks were spent on 3-4 outside linebackers, orthodox 4-3 ends and specialists. This number doesn’t include interior defensive lineman or five-techniques. Of those 24 players, only seven could be deemed a success: DeMarcus Ware (11th overall, Dallas), Mario Williams (1st overall, Houston), Tamba Hali (20th overall, Kansas City), Chris Long (2nd overall, St. Louis), Brian Orakpo (13th overall, Washington), Clay Matthews (26th overall, Green Bay) and Jason Pierre-Paul (15th overall, New York).

Today’s high profile NFL Combine is more about sterile medical and measurement data collection than character evaluations.

Super Bowl in Seattle? Slow your roll | Seahawks Insider
The Seattle Seahawks confirmed an earlier report by Q13 Fox News that the team has filled out preliminary paperwork in response to an inquiry by the league sent out to northern cities about the possibility of hosting a Super Bowl in the future. However, I want to caution that this is a preliminary step, and the team has many hoops to jump through before being asked to submit a formal proposal to the Super Bowl Advisory Committee to host a Super Bowl.

NFL Free Agent Profile: Calias Campbell - Hogs Haven
Calias Campbell is perhaps the biggest name on the market of defensive lineman, so what better place to start? Campbell is a 25 year-old, 6'5", 300 pound monster on the defensive line. Yes he is going to cost a lot of money, and at his age he should. He also should be starting the majority of snaps for the life of the contract.

49ers, Dolphins have best odds in upcoming Manning Sweepstakes | The Daily Dolphin
It could happen any day. While the Indianapolis Colts don’t have to make a decision on Peyton Manning until March 8, when they will owe him a $28 million bonus if he is still on the roster, the decision obviously could come sooner. It’s become almost common knowledge that owner Jim Irsay has decided to cut Manning loose rather than take the risk _ however large or small it may be _ that the face of the franchise suffer a career-ending injury. Manning has also made it clear that he has every intention of resuming his career.
